DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men's golf head coach
Bob Heintz has announced the hiring of
Daniel Bowden as an assistant coach for the Blue Devils.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Daniel to the Duke men's golf program," said Heintz. "I've known him for several years, competing against his teams in collegiate events and working alongside him during summer camps. He'll bring a wealth of knowledge and insight to our program, from his expertise in game-improvement technology, feedback for our players' golf swings and impacts on the recruiting trail. Considering the success Coach Bowden and his teams achieved at UNC Wilmington, we're fortunate to have him join our staff."
Bowden joins the Duke program after most recently serving as head coach of the UNC Wilmington men's golf program for eight seasons. Bowden was elevated to the head coaching position for the Seahawks ahead of the 2017-18 campaign and helped his team take home 14 titles, marking Bowden as the winningest men's golf coach in UNC Wilmington history.
"I'm honored to join the Duke men's golf program," said Bowden. "Duke was the first school I visited during my collegiate recruiting process, so I already know that it aligns perfectly with my goal of working with a program known for both its athletic and academic prestige. I've had the chance to grow as a coach, both in the collegiate and professional ranks, and this role presents another opportunity that gets me excited to wake up each morning and get to work."
Bowden was named CAA Coach of the Year three times during his UNC Wilmington tenure, including back-to-back honors in 2018 and 2019, and capped off with his third selection in 2023.
"I know that Bob and I are going to complement each other well," added Bowden. "I've had the opportunity to work with him during summer camps and we work really well together, from what I've seen in those moments. I'm excited to start building relationships and trust with our team as we get ready for the upcoming season and I can't wait to start taking advantage of all the wonderful facilities that Duke has to offer to ensure our program continues to climb to new heights."
In postseason play, the Seahawks secured three CAA titles (2018, 2019, 2023) during Bowden's tenure and made four NCAA Regional appearances (2018 Bryan, 2019 Athens, 2021 Noblesville, 2023 Norman).
Bowden began his playing career at Georgia Tech as the only freshman to make the team's traveling squad during the 2006-07 season, helping the team to a team ACC co-championship. He transferred to Furman ahead of the 2008-09 season, where he was a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar in 2009 and 2010, while also helping the Paladins to the 2010 Southern Conference team title.
After graduating magna cum laude from Furman with a degree in Business Administration, Bowden played professionally for five years, highlighted by top-10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR Canada before turning his focus to coaching.
