DURHAM, N.C. – Duke softball added another new face to its pitching staff as head coach
Marissa Young announced the signing of right-handed pitcher
Mallory Wheeler to the program Thursday afternoon.
"Mallory is a special addition to our program," said Young. "Her ability to keep hitters off balance will add great versatility to our pitching staff. She has proven to be able to handle a significant amount of innings after throwing 136 innings in her freshman year. Mallory is an elite competitor who wants the ball in her hands during those big moments. We are excited to welcome her and her family to Durham."
Wheeler joins the Blue Devils after playing her freshman season at Louisiana. The Jensen Beach, Fla., native posted a 3.48 ERA after 32 appearances in the circle, earning 19 starts. She collected a team-high 13 wins on the year and threw nine complete games, including two solo shutouts. Wheeler led the Cajuns' pitching staff with 81 strikeouts over 136.2 innings.
She closed out the season on a high note as she tossed the first no-hitter of her career during the regular season finale against Southern Miss, leading the Ragin' Cajuns to a 2-0 victory over the Golden Eagles. The freshman sat down 21 of 22 batters faced and became the first Louisiana pitcher to work a seven-inning no-no since February 2023. Wheeler earned the first Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week nod of her career for her efforts.
Prior to the 2025 season, Wheeler was named to both the
D1Softball D100 Freshman to Watch List and
SoftballAmerica Freshman Watch List.
Wheeler is set to join fellow transfer
Larissa Jacquez and freshmen
London Collins,
Brookelyn Grayson,
Ariel Krueger,
Adelyn Matthews,
Gabriella Shadek and
Jayla Stafford as the seven newcomers on the Blue Devils' roster in the fall.
