DURHAM, N.C. – Two Blue Devils received singles accolades and one doubles team was honored, as the conference announced its annual All-ACC men's tennis awards Thursday afternoon.
Junior
Pedro Rodenas was named to the All-ACC Second Team, while sophomore
Cooper Williams earned All-ACC Third Team honors. Graduate student
Theo Winegar and Williams were also selected to the All-ACC Doubles First Team.
Rodenas, a native of Madrid, Spain, holds a 14-5 record in dual matches this season, including a 7-2 mark in ACC play. He has competed at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and boasts a 9-6 record against ranked opponents. Rodenas has been ranked throughout the dual match season, and current polls at No. 26 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). This season, he has earned notable wins over No. 9 Samir Banerjee of Stanford, No. 11 Carl Emil Overbeck of California and No. 19 Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame.
A product of New York, N.Y., Williams posted a 9-6 overall record with a 5-2 ledger in ACC matches. He has competed at the top two singles spots and is currently riding a seven-match win streak. During that stretch, he has earned victories over Clemson's No. 58 Noa Vukadin, Florida State's No. 40 Jamie Connel and NC State's No. 30 Martin Borisiouk. Williams has been ranked throughout the dual match season and is currently at a season-high No. 43.
The doubles team of Winegar, a native from Osprey, Fla., and Williams is undefeated at 4-0 in dual and conference matches, all at the top position. The pair is currently ranked a season-high No. 7 by the ITA. In the ACC Championship, the duo posted wins over No. 21 Sebastian Dominko and Chase Thompson of Notre Dame, No. 6 Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek of NC State and Stanford's Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera.
Duke now awaits its NCAA Tournament opponent, to be announced Monday, April 28, during the NCAA Selection Show.
