GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Duke women's golf team carded the tied for fourth-best round Thursday at the ACC Championship, while sophomore
Katie Li and freshman
Carla De Troia shot under par as the Blue Devils closed action in Greensboro at the 6,092-yard, par-72 Sedgefield Country Club.
Li, a native of Basking Ridge, N.J., fired a 7-under, 65, which was tied for the lowest score of the 2025 ACC Championship and tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score for the Blue Devils in ACC Championship action. De Troia registered her second-straight under-par round as she fired a 1-under, 71, in the third round. She placed tied for 11th overall with a 1-over, 217.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke featured a tremendous start to the day as the Blue Devils were 5-under through five holes with eight birdies.
- Katie Li carded a bogey-free round of 7-under, 65, which was a career low. She turned in seven birdies – four on the front nine and three on the back. Li kicked things off with back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3. She rolled in a 9-footer for birdie on the second hole and then hit her 7-iron from 151 yards to six feet for birdie on the par-3 third. Li got up-and-down for birdie on the par-5 fifth and then got up-and-down for par on No. 6. She moved to 4-under with a six-foot birdie on No. 8 and made the turn at 31. Li rolled in a short birdie on the par-5 No. 10 and then had four pars in a row. She got up-and-down from the greenside bunker on the par-5 No. 15 for birdie and then drained a 16-footer for birdie on No. 18 to finish off the day.
- Carla De Troia closed her first ACC Championship with back-to-back under-par scores as she posted a 5-under, 67, and 1-under, 71, in her final two rounds. She registered two birdies over her first five holes to open the morning at 2-under. De Troia, who is from Paris, France, registered her first birdie on her opening hole as she hit her wedge from 114 yards to 16 feet and made the putt. She then rolled in a 10-foot birdie on the fifth, bogeyed No. 6 and then hit her 7-iron from 150 yards to three feet for birdie on No. 7. De Troia made the turn at 2-under, 33, and then suffered back-to-back bogeys to open the back nine. She played the final seven holes at 1-under with a lone birdie on the par-5 No. 15 as she 2-putted, after hitting her approach on in two. She hit 16 greens, 10 fairways and had 34 putts.
- Junior Andie Smith closed her third ACC Championship with a top-25 finish as she signed for a 2-over, 74, in the final round.Her first birdie of the day came on the 385-yard, par-4 second hole as she hit her 7-iron from 165 yards to three feet.Smith had three bogeys over her next five holes with a birdie in-between on No. 4.After a double-bogey on No. 10, Smith played her final eight holes at 1-under. She reached the green in two on both par-5 holes on the way in and 2-putted for birdie, while suffering a bogey on No. 17.She hit 11 greens and nine fairways on the day.
- Seeing action in her final ACC Championship, senior Rylie Heflin finished with a 6-over, 78.She was even through seven holes as she had five pars, one bogey and one birdie.Heflin, a native of Avondale, Pa., hit her 58-degree wedge from 78 yards to 10 feet on the par-5 fifth.She added another birdie on No. 9 as she rolled in a 40-footer from off the green to make the turn.Heflin closed the day with a 78.
- Anna Cañado Espinal carded two birdies in her final round and shot an 81.
NOTES
- Li registered 16 greens in regulation, seven fairways and had 27 putts on the day.
- With her round in the 60s, Li has now totaled nine career scores in the 60s as a Blue Devil and five this season.
- Li's round of 65 was tied with Phoebe Brinker's score of 65 from 2022 at Sedgefield and one shot behind Brinker's round of 64 from 2023.
- Li played the par-5 holes Thursday at 4-under-par as she birdied all four of them.
- Li's 12 birdies ranked tied for eighth among the field with the most being 14.
- De Troia totaled her ninth round of even or under par on the season.Six of those nine have come this spring.
- Stanford, Florida State, Virginia, Wake Forest, North Carolina and California advanced to match play.
- The Blue Devils totaled rounds of 305, 301 and 288 for an 894, which was 10th.
- Duke's 10th-place finish in the ACC Championship was the lowest in program history.
- De Troia is the first Duke freshman since Anne Chen in 2021 to finish in the top-11 of the ACC Championship.
