DURHAM, N.C. – The 10th-ranked Duke women's tennis team returns to action this weekend, after more than 10 days off from dual match play. The Blue Devils (8-2, 2-0 ACC) will travel to 22nd-ranked Georgia Tech (7-5, 2-1 ACC) on Friday, March 7 at 4 p.m., and then face 24th-ranked Clemson (10-3, 1-2 ACC) on Sunday, March 9 at 11 a.m.
Duke is in the middle of a six-match road swing that will end next week at San Diego State on Thursday, March 13.
The Series with Georgia Tech
Duke and Georgia Tech will meet for the 53rd time in program history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 38-14. The Yellow Jackets have had the edge in the series as of late winning four out of the last six and 11 out of the last 15 contests. In matches played in Atlanta, Ga., Duke is 14-7.
Scouting Georgia Tech
No. 22 Georgia Tech owns a 7-5 overall and 2-1 ACC mark heading into the weekend. The Yellow Jackets totaled a 4-2 win against Clemson and a 4-2 loss to Virginia to open league action this past weekend.
In the latest ITA rankings, Georgia Tech is No. 22 as a team. In the singles rankings, Scarlett Nicholson (94) and Alejandra Cruz (113) are listed.
The Series with Clemson
Duke and Clemson are set to meet for the 60th time in school history. The Blue Devils lead the series, 38-21, and have won 12 in a row. In matches played in Clemson, Duke holds a 13-8 ledger with four-straight wins.
Scouting Clemson
Clemson owns a 10-3 overall and 1-2 ACC ledger, while being ranked No. 24 nationally. The Tigers opened ACC play with a 4-2 loss to Georgia Tech and a 4-0 win at Virginia Tech.

In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Duke remained in the top 10 nationally at No. 10. Duke head coach
Jamie Ashworth has led the Blue Devils into the top 10 of the ITA rankings in 21 out of the last 23 years.
In the latest singles rankings, Duke boasted four ranked student-athletes in singles --
Irina Balus (13),
Emma Jackson (29),
Eleana Yu (33) and
Shavit Kimchi (60) – along with one ranked doubles team –
Ellie Coleman and Balus (14).
Earlier this spring, Balus became the eighth Blue Devil freshman to be ranked in the top 10 nationally and the first since Maria Mateas in 2019. In looking at the ITA rankings, Balus is the second-highest freshman ranked nationally behind Valerie Glozman of Stanford (6).
Hovde Makes Duke Debut at Boston College & Syracuse

Jamie Ashworth added 2022 Wimbledon girls' singles champion
Liv Hovde to the roster on Dec. 23 heading into the spring season and she made her 2025 debut on the road at Boston College and Syracuse. Neither of her singles matches were finished, while she won one of her double's contests in the opening weekend.
A native of St. Paul, Minn., Hovde is a former No. 1 recruit nationally, while featuring an Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF) career-high ranking of No. 3 and a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) career-high rankings of No. 245 in singles and No. 354 in doubles. Hovde also owns seven ITF titles.
New Additions, Big Impact
The Blue Devils brought in three newcomers in the fall and all three have made a big impact on the success of the squad.
Irina Balus (7-2),
Eleana Yu (7-3) and
Ava Krug (5-2) combined to total a 19-7 singles ledger and 16-7 doubles mark in the fall. Both Balus and Krug are freshmen, while Yu is a sophomore who spent the previous season at Stanford. They have extended it into the spring with a 34-10 mark in singles.

Jamie Ashworth is in his 29th season with the Blue Devils and owns an impressive 618-160 ledger. Last season, Ashworth registered his 600th victory on Jan. 20 in a 4-2 win over Illinois. He accomplished this mark in only 747 matches becoming the quickest coach to 600 wins.

Among the winningest coaches of all time, Ashworth ranks 11th with a 79.4 winning percentage, seventh with 618 wins, fourth for winningest active coaches by percentage (79.4) and second for winningest active coaches by victories.
Big Sets for Little Hearts
The Duke men's and women's tennis programs announced a partnership with the Duke Children's Hospital Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center called Big Sets for Little Hearts this past fall.
Big Sets for Little Hearts pledges will be made based on the number of sets won by the men's and women's tennis programs. Last year, both tennis teams combined for 647 sets won.

Noting the Blue Devils
- Rookie Ava Krug continued her host start to her collegiate career moving to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in dual match action.She improved to 2-0 in ACC play as well.
- Freshman Irina Balus has been tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 18 and Jan. 28 so far this season.
- With the win against sixth-ranked Michigan, Duke collected its sixth-straight win over a top 10 ranked opponent at home and moved to 9-4 in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center versus top 10 foes.
- Senior Ellie Coleman notched her 10th career match-clinching win with her victory against 66th-ranked Reese Miller of Michigan.It clinched Duke's 4-3 win versus the sixth-ranked Wolverines.Coleman posted her fourth win of the season against ranked opponents and is now 17-11 over her career in three-set matches.
- Emma Jackson posted her 15th career match-clinching point against Syracuse to move her into a tie for fifth all-time on the Blue Devil record charts.
- Duke freshman Ava Krug has a couple of familiar faces around Durham this season as her brothers, Jake and Connor, are seniors on the Blue Devil men's tennis team.
- Duke has featured a stellar home court advantage over the years and have boasted a 112-6 ledger over the last 18 years.Since opening the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center, the Blue Devils have posted a 143-10 record over 25 years.
