DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devils welcome Syracuse to Duke Softball Stadium for their second conference matchup of the season. Due to projected inclement weather, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with the first game slated for 4 p.m.
The Blue Devils moved to 17-8 on the year following a 2-1 series win over Clemson and a tough 1-0 loss at No. 7 Tennessee Tuesday night. After falling in the weekend opener, 12-4, the Blue Devils bounced back with 5-3 and 2-1 wins to clinch the series victory. In the midweek contest, Tennessee scored the lone run in the first inning with a solo home run. Despite the loss, graduate student
Dani Drogemuller and junior
Cassidy Curd were stellar in the circle, combining to allow just four hits with 10 strikeouts during the contest. Junior
Aminah Vega continues to power the offense this season, leading the team in batting average (.438), hits (35), doubles (10) and total bases (53) through 25 games. Her 10 doubles and 35 hits rank third and fourth in the ACC, respectively.
Syracuse enters the weekend with a 16-6 overall record and a 0-3 mark in ACC play. The Orange opened conference play on the road at No. 19 Stanford last weekend, where they dropped all three games to the Cardinal. The Orange were competitive in the first two matchups, falling 4-3 and 5-1, before suffering their first run-rule loss of the year in game three, 9-0 (6 inn.). Through 22 games, two Orange hitters are batting above .400 in Madelyn Lopez (.478) and Angie Ramos (.410).
