FORT WORTH, Texas – Redshirt sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah was named a Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Great 8 performer and Manning Award Star of the Week on Monday. The honors are the first of the year for Mensah.
Last Saturday in leading Duke to a 46-45 victory at Clemson, Mensah marched the team on a 94-yard game-winning drive for the game-deciding touchdown and two-point conversion with 40 seconds to play.Â
Mensah completed 27-of-41 (.659) passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns versus the Tigers. The San Luis Obispo, California, native engineered a game-winning drive by completing six-of-eight passes for 83 yards and two third or fourth-down conversions. Mensah threw three of his four touchdown passes in the opening frame. The three scores are the most in a quarter by a Blue Devil since Daniel Jones in 2018. Mensah becomes just the fifth Duke QB with three or more passing touchdowns in a quarter in program history, joining David Green, Ben Bennett, Dave Brown and Jones.
Last week, Mensah was announced as part of the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2025 and added to the Manning Award Watch List.
