FORT WORTH, Texas – Duke redshirt sophomore quarterback
Darian Mensah was announced as one of 20 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The 20 semifinalist quarterbacks have helped guide their respective teams to a combined record of 154-31 (.832).
In his first season at Duke, Mensah leads the ACC in passing yards per game (310.4), passing touchdowns (24), pass efficiency (165.1), pass completions per game (24.9) and points responsible for (148). He ranks within the top 14 nationally in passing yards per game (2nd), passing yards (2,794/4th), passing touchdowns (4th), passing efficiency (5th), completions per game (5th), completion percentage (.698/12th) and total offense per game (303.3/14th).
Mensah, a product of San Luis Obispo, Calif., has already set the Duke single-season record with nine games having two or more touchdown passes. Dating back to his 2024 season at Tulane, he has thrown multiple TD passes in 13 consecutive games, tied with Baylor's Sawyer Robertson for the longest active streak in the FBS. Mensah is on pace to set Blue Devil single-season records for completion percentage, pass efficiency and passing touchdowns.
The next step in the award's process will is selecting the three finalists, who will be chosen based on voting from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee as well as bonus ballots awarded from the second round of the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote.
For the sixth straight year, fan voting on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) will earn players bonus selection committee votes. To vote, fans must like the official graphic from the @daveyobrien social media account that highlights their favorite quarterback. The second round will close Friday, November 21 at 11:59 p.m. CT.
The Foundation will announce the three finalists on Tuesday, November 25. The 2025 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Friday, December 12, during
The Home Depot College Football Awards. The 49th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
