DURHAM, N.C. – On the heels of one of Duke's finest on-field football seasons, the Blue Devils placed four student-athleteson the 2024 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Defensive tackle Kendy Charles, center Matt Craycraft, long snapper Curtis Cooper and left tackle Bruno Fina received recognition. All four will be placed on the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.
Other ACC programs with at least one all-district selection this season are California (three), Florida State (three), Georgia Tech (two), SMU (one), Stanford (eight), Syracuse (three) and Virginia (two).
Charles, a 6-0, 280-pound graduate student from Orange Park, Fla., capped his final collegiate season by starting all 13 games and booking 50 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one quarterback pressure, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. He booked 10 or more tackles twice, against No. 22 SMU and Virginia Tech. He was also a Second Team All-ACC selection.
Craycraft and Fina were key members of the Duke offensive line, which ranked second in the ACC and tied for eighth nationally in fewest sacks allowed per game (0.92). They provided pass protection for Maalik Murphy to throw for a Duke single-season record 26 touchdowns. Craycraft, a 6-3, 300-pound redshirt sophomore from Dallas, started all 13 games after entering the campaign with just one start, against Troy in the 2023 Birmingham Bowl. He was also a 2023 Academic All-ACC honoree. Fina, a 6-5, 300-pound graduate student from Tucson, Ariz., started 12 games during his first year in Durham. He was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District® squad while at UCLA and was a two-time Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll (2022 and 2023) selection.
Cooper, a 6-2, 218-pound senior from Huntsville, Ala., handled all of Duke's long snapping duties this season. He helped Duke's kickers convert 15-of-20 field goals and 35 PATs. He also assisted the punting units on 77 punts for 3,331 yards (43.26), including 27 punts downed inside the 20. He was an Academic All-ACC and CSC Academic All-District selection last fall.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore or higher standing, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be nominated by his sports information director.
