DURHAM, N.C. – Following a vote from the league's head coaches, Duke softball was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2025 ACC Softball Coaches Poll. Juniors

Aminah Vega also earned individual recognition after being named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, the conference announced on Thursday.
Coming off a record-setting 2024 campaign, the Blue Devils were chosen to top the league for the first time in the program's seven-year history. Last season, the Blue Devils set a program record with a 52-9 overall ledger, captured its second ACC Championship, made their third straight NCAA Super Regional appearance and first Women's College World Series appearance.
Duke received 11 first-place votes for a total of 193 points. Florida State earned four first-place votes and came in second in the preseason poll with 183 points. Virginia Tech was tabbed third with 165 points, Stanford was fourth with 143 points and Virginia received 140 points to round out the top five teams.
The Preseason All-ACC Softball Team is voted on by the league's 15 head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each ballot was comprised of five infielders, four outfielders, three pitchers, a catcher and either a designated player or utility player.
Five ACC softball teams are ranked among the top 25 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Preseason Poll. Duke leads the group at No. 8, followed by No. 12 Florida State, No. 18 Virginia Tech, No. 21 Cal and No. 22 Stanford.
Duke opens the 2025 season in Clearwater, Fla., playing in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic Feb. 6-9 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Blue Devils highlight the field as the lone 2024 Women's College World Series participant with Missouri and Tennessee making Super Regional appearances. Duke will face Penn State (Feb. 7), Mississippi State (Feb. 7), Missouri (Feb. 8), Northwestern (Feb. 8) and Kentucky (Feb. 9) during the four-day showcase.
