D1Baseball Analysis of 2024 Signing Class
Headliners: Max Stammel,
Henry Zatkowski, and
Jeff Lougee
"Blue-chip freshmen
Henry Zatkowski and
Max Stammel are big pieces of this program's future and should also pitch plenty of meaningful innings as freshmen. Both are lower-release / high-ride fastball guys, giving them the appearance of pitching uphill and making their heaters play above the 87-89 mph velocity they showed in the fall … Zatkowski's slot is a bit lower, and his arm swing reminded me of Tallon's. His heater jumps on hitters, and he threw more than 60 percent strikes this fall with all three of his offerings, including a quality sinking changeup and a good sweeper with a late bite.
Jeff Lougee, a strong candidate for the second base job, is a quick-twitch 6-foot, 185-pound athlete with an advanced all-fields approach from the left side as well as emerging pop. Pollard said his hit tool garnered top-five-rounds grades from scouts last spring, and he found his footing in the second half of the fall, when he was one of Duke's hottest hitters."
