DURHAM, N.C. – Led by senior outside hitter
Rachel Richardson's 13 kills, Duke volleyball (3-3) swept the FIU Panthers (0-6), 3-0 inside Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
After stretching a first-set lead to 24-20, the Blue Devils closed out the first set of play with Richardson's kill to take the first set 25-21. In the second set, Duke trailed 15-9 following a timeout, before
Kerry Keefe gave the Blue Devils a spark, going on a 9-2 run to take an 18-17 lead. Freshman
Breonna Goss closed out the second set with a solo block, capping off a 7-4 run in the second frame.
In a back-and-forth affair to begin set three, Duke settled the tempo holding the advantage of set point at 24-19. The Panthers would rally back to force extra points before Duke used a kill from
Rylie Kadel and two attacking errors by the Panthers to complete the sweep.
How it Happened
- After stretching their lead to 24-20, the Blue Devils closed out the first set with a Rachel Richardson kill to lead the match, 1-0, with a 25-21 victory.
- In the second set, Kerry Keefe gave Duke's attack a spark, rallying from down 15-9 to leading 18-17. The Blue Devils went on a 7-4 run down the stretch, closing the set with a Breonna Goss solo block, 2-0.
- Duke jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the final stanza, before pushing their lead out to 13-7 with a 4-0 run. The Blue Devils held off a feverous rally at the end of the third set, scoring three consecutive points to close out set three 28-26 and complete the sweep of the Panthers.

- Fellow senior Rylie Kadel paced Duke hitting .400 for the match, with nine kills, one assist, and six block assists.
- Graduate setter Grace Penn led the charge with 32 assists and three block assists.
- Duke's Kerry Keefe posted four service aces, including two during the Blue Devils 7-0 run in the second set to take control.
- The Blue Devils completed the weekend 2-1, defeating Davidson and FIU.
