DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team captured a 3-1 victory (25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20) over Davidson Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With the victory, Duke snaps a three-match losing streak and improves to 2-3 on the season.
Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by
Kerry Keefe with 16 kills and just one error to hit an impressive .349 percent to spearhead four individuals in double-digits. Freshman
Breonna Goss tallied 13 kills on no mistakes, good for a whopping .684 clip to
Rylie Kadel's 11 and
Rachel Richardson's 10.
Setter
Grace Penn dished 45 dimes while libero
Mailinh Godschall grabbed 23 digs. Godschall and Richardson each tallied three aces as Duke finished the match with eight. Kadel paced the blocking contingent with six total blocks.
Davidson was led by Jackie Bardin and Isabel Decker with 13 kills each.
How it Happened
- Duke took an early 1-0 lead in the match with help from a .371 hitting percentage.
- Davidson hit .343 percent in the second set with 18 kills and limited Duke to just a .152 clip.
- The Wildcats used a 4-0 run to open up a five-point lead (20-15), forcing Duke into a timeout. Godschall tallied her second ace of the evening to bring Duke within two (22-20). Keefe knocked down her 11th kill of the match to hold off a Davidson set win before the Blue Devils committed their fifth service error to even the match, 1-1.
- Duke used six block assists in the third set to keep Davidson on its heels with a .000 hitting percentage. Richardson paced Duke's offense with four kills as the Blue Devils committed just two errors as a team for a .324 percent to take a 2-1 set lead.
- The Blue Devils closed the match with a dominant .444 hitting percentage as Goss, Kadel, Keefe and Richardson combined for 17 kills.
Notables
- Head coach Jolene Nagel recorded her 704th-career win and her 501st at the helm of the Blue Devils.
- The all-time series moves to 1-0 in favor of Duke. This was the first meeting between the two programs despite meeting several times in exhibition matches.
- Kadel tallied her 21st-career match with four-or-more blocks.
- Keefe tallied her 37th-career game with 10-or-more kills.
- Godschall finished the match with three aces and owns eight this fall.
- Duke saw its best hitting percentage of the fall this evening -- .326 percent.
