Duke women's soccer will continue its homestand Thursday, Sept. 5 as the Blue Devils (2-1-0) host second-ranked North Carolina (6-0-0) at Koskinen Stadium at 7 p.m.
Thursday's contest will be aired live on ACC Network with Jenn Hildreth and Lori Lindsey on the call.
On the season, Duke has scored seven goals by seven different players.
Freshman Mary Long missed the Nebraska match as she was training with the U.S. U-17 Women's National Team. She returned to Duke practice on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Duke welcomed eight newcomers to the 2024 roster as head coach Robbie Church is in his 24th season in Durham. Church announced on July 22, 2024 he will be retiring at the end of the season and Duke will be promoting associate head coach Kieran Hall to head coach in 2025. Current assistant coach Carla Overbeckwill move to associate head coach in 2025 as well.
STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
Thursday's contest between Duke and UNC will be a non-conference match in 2024.
The Duke/Tennessee match was canceled due to inclement weather on Sept. 1.
The Blue Devils are averaging 23.0 shots a match and outshooting opponents by a 69-19 margin.
Duke has scored seven goals the last two matches. The Blue Devils scored a total of 15 goals a season ago.
Hannah Bebarplayed in her 50th collegiate match on Thursday against UNCW and notched her first two Duke assists and 27th career assist.
Duke's 4-0 win against UNCW was the 250th win in program history at home.
The last time the Blue Devils dropped a season opener was in 2017. Duke went on to win 19 straight matches after the loss and made an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.
Duke was shutout in the season opener for the first time since 2014, which was also a loss to Ohio State (1-0).
The Blue Devils return 10 starters and 17 letterwinners from the previous season. Of the 15 goals scored in 2023, the Blue Devils return players that scored 13 of those led by Kat Rader (7), Carina Lageyre (2) and Katie Groff(2).
Duke brought in four transfers for the 2024 campaign that feature excellent resumes. Hannah Bebar, Farrah Walters, Ella Hase and Mia Oliaro have combined to play in 141 matches with 132 starts, scored 48 goals, added 42 assists and notched 138 points over their careers.
The Blue Devils were ranked No. 24 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll, which marked the ninth time out of the last 10 years Duke has been preseason ranked.
The last time Duke head coach Robbie Church dealt with a losing season was in 2014 and the next year he led the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup.

Duke will take its eight natives of California back to their home state in October for a week-long road trip to play Stanford (Oct. 10) and California (Oct. 13).
THE SERIES WITH NORTH CAROLINA
Duke holds an all-time ledger of 4-43-4 against the Tar Heels. The Blue Devils are 0-18-3 against UNC in Durham.
In the last meeting a season ago, Duke registered a goal in the final minute of the match to finish in a 1-1 draw against top-ranked North Carolina in Durham.
Kat Radercollected the game-tying goal with a minute remaining, off an assist from Cameron Roller.
Duke's Leah Freeman was outstanding in goal as she registered three saves in the first half, while finishing the game with four. She also saved a penalty kick to help keep the score 1-0 in favor of UNC.
Head coach Robbie Church has faced North Carolina 30 times and is responsible for three of the four wins the Blue Devils hold against the Tar Heels.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina features a 6-0 ledger and is outscoring opponents by a 16-6 clip.
Kat Faasse leads the Tar Heels with four goals, while four other UNC players have three goals each.
North Carolina allowed all six goals in the first three matches.
HEY, I KNOW YOU!
Duke sophomore Mia Oliaro attended North Carolina in 2023 as a freshman. She played in 20 matches.
North Carolina graduate student Olivia Migliis a 2024 Duke graduate. She appeared in 71 matches, while making 52 starts and logging 3,809 minutes. Migli scored 11 goals and added five assists for 27 points.
Duke assistant coach Carla Overbeck will face her alma mater as she is a 1990 graduate of North Carolina. She collected an 89-0-6 record at UNC and won four NCAA Championships under Anson Dorrance. Overbeck's daughter, Carson, is a senior on the UNC volleyball team.
Duke graduate student Maggie Graham and senior Baleigh Brusterplayed with UNC's Evelyn Shores at Tophat Club Soccer team. Shores also attended Westminster with Graham.
Phoebe Goldthwaite played with Abby Gundry at NC Courage Girls Development Academy for three years and also played with Aven Alvarez of UNC.
Duke's Cameron Roller and Mia Oliaro traveled to Spain with the U.S. U-19 Youth National Team this past summer. UNC's Aven Alvarez also played on the team.
Goldthwaite and Oliaro along with numerous UNC players helped lead the USL W-League U-23 squad to the championship over the summer.
OFFENSIVE ATTACK
For the first time under the direction of head coach Robbie Church, the Blue Devils have attempted 20+ shots in the opening three matches to start a season.
This season, Duke had 21 at Ohio State, 20 at Nebraska and a season-high 28 versus UNC Wilmington.
Duke's 23.0 shots per game average on the season currently ranks third in the ACC -- Florida State (32.6), North Carolina (24.8) and Duke (23.0).
Duke's 69 shots through three matches are the ninth-most over the first three games in school history. The most was 98 in 1989.
