HUGE ACC RESULT IN CHARLOTTESVILLE
- Behind strong defensive play and a sustained attack, Duke opened the 2024 ACC slate with a 1-0 victory over Virginia on Friday evening at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va. The Blue Devils extended their unbeaten streak to five matches against the Cavaliers, improving to 4-0-1 in those contests.

Graduate Adam Luckhurst thought he put the Blue Devils on top in the first 45 minutes but was whistled for a hand ball in the box and the match remained scoreless. In the 50th minute, Luckhurst played a ball through the front of the goal, attempting to find Colton Pleasants, but Virginia's Nick Dang slid through the play and deflected the ball into the back of the net for an own goal. Graduate Wessel Speel tallied one save and orchestrated a strong backline that limited the Virginia offense to just two shots, the least in a match since 2016 for the Cavaliers.
