Moore Selected to Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – The PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday that Duke senior running back Jaquez Moore has been named a preseason candidate for the 2024 Doak Walker Award.

The Forum annually presents the award to the nation's most outstanding running back.

After playing in all 13 games last season, Moore returns for his senior season as a preseason Third Team All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports. Last year, the Live Oak, Florida, native rushed 116 times for 674 yards, good for an average of 5.81 yards per attempt, while scoring six touchdowns and adding four catches for 64 yards. Moore finished the year second on the team in rushing attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns and fourth in scoring with 36 points.
Throughout his career, Moore has amassed 1,194 rushing yards on 200 carries (5.97 yards per carry) and has reached the endzone 11 times. In Duke's game at Florida State during the 2023 season, he set career highs in both carries (16) and rushing yards (110) while also registering a touchdown. His first multi-score game came in 2022 when he scored twice against Boston College and his career-long rush came the same season on a 59-yard scamper against Virginia.
Entering 2024, Moore is tied for sixth all-time in program history for career rushing touchdowns of 20-plus yards (6) and ranks 41st in career rushing yards.

The award is named for SMU's three-time All-American running back Doak Walker.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2024 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.

Duke's 2024 season opener is slated for Friday, August 30 when it welcomes Elon to Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
