DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Athletics introduced a new contemporary secondary logo for football on Monday that connects Duke and its home city of Durham, North Carolina.
Â
The base of the logo is the iconic Blue Devil and the famous "headband" that is donned with different monikers. For this mark, the Blue Devil will don its hometown – Bull City, as Durham is affectionately known. Additionally, the hands symbolize a ritualistic motion that has become a staple for Duke student-athletes and fans when celebrating big moments on the field of play.
Â
This new mark will be prominently featured throughout Durham, on campus and in Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium this fall through marketing campaigns and merchandising offerings.
"We are thrilled to launch our new mark which pays homage to our hometown nickname, Bull City," Duke Vice President & Director of Athletics Nina King said. "As Duke University and Duke Athletics continue to collaborate with the city of Durham, we thought no better time than now, right before kickoff and our annual Durham Day celebration, to showcase on local, regional and national levels the pride Duke has in being a part of Bull City. This mark, which will strategically be used to compliment the Iron D, features the iconic Blue Devil including its signature headband with the Bull City moniker, as well as the "Bull Hands" which have symbolized and celebrated significant moments on the field of play."
Along with the additions of the secondary logo, the Devils Deck and in-venue videoboard and social media gameday host Rachel DeMita, Duke will have one final announcement about gameday enhancements in the coming weeks.
Â
Duke's 2024 season opener is slated for Friday, August 30 when it welcomes Elon to Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
