DURHAM, N.C. - Ahead of Friday's home opener against Elon, GoDuke.com sat down with redshirt sophomore Maalik Murphy for a brief question and answer session.
GoDuke.com: Do you have any superstitions, pregame or during the week, that get you ready for an upcoming game?
Maalik Murphy: I'm not very superstitious, but I will make sure I listen to music to get into the zone in my own little area before a game.
GD: How has the new coach-to-player communication element changed the game for you?
MM: It's been different. It's made it a lot easier at times being able to get help from a coach immediately and not having to kind of think about it. You can just hear it without even asking. I think it's a good implementation of the game. I'm pretty excited to use it.
GD: Let's say you're playing basketball with your teammates and it comes down to the last shot, who are you passing to for the game-winning basket and why?
MM: Probably Jordan Moore. I personally haven't seen him on the court, but the way everybody speaks about him, he's tough, so I'd give the ball to Jordan.
GD: You've said you are a big country music fan. If you had the chance to go to any country concert while in Nashville, who would you see?
 MM:Morgan Wallen. Easy answer.
GD: What are three items in your closet that you can't live without?
MM: I'm not big into clothes or shoes, but I do love cologne. So I'd have to say my different colognes, or my watch.
GD: If you could swap wardrobes with anyone on the team, who would it be?
MM: Jalen Stinson. He is the best dressed for sure.
GD: What do you miss most about being home in California?
MM: I'd have to say my parents. It's been pretty tough being so far from my them.
GD: When you go home, who's on your list of must-see people?
MM: My mom, my dad, some former teammates and coaches. I always try to get back to my high school when I go home to work out and see my head coach, just to kind of be around the program.
GD: Lastly, you're having a dinner party for four. What past or present NFL quarterbacks are you inviting to join you?
MM: Tom Brady, Cam Newton and either John Elway or Brent Favre, those two are tied for me.
