Duke women's soccer (0-1-0) will play its second-straight road contest to open the season Thursday, Aug. 22 as the Blue Devils travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska (1-1-0) at 8 p.m. (ET) inside Hibner Stadium.Â
Thursday's contest will be aired live on B1G+ with Max Meyer on the call.
Duke will play its second consecutive Big Ten opponent on Thursday, after facing Ohio State in the opener last week. The Blue Devils will be on the road for the first two matches, but then not again until Sept. 19 at Clemson.
Freshman Mary Long will miss the Nebraska match as she will be training with the U.S. U-17 National Team in California. She will be available for the UNCW match next week.
Duke was shutout in the season opener for the first time since 2014, which was also a loss to Ohio State (1-0).
Duke welcomed eight newcomers to the 2024 roster as head coach Robbie Church is in his 24th season in Durham. Church announced on July 22, 2024 he will be retiring at the end of the season and Duke will be promoting associate head coach Kieran Hall to head coach in 2025. Current assistant coach Carla Overbeckwill move to associate head coach in 2025 as well.Â
 STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
Over the last four years, Duke features a 10-2 record in the month of August.
The last time the Blue Devils dropped a season opener was in 2017. Duke went on to win 19 straight matches after the loss and made an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.
Following opening the season with back-to-back road contests, Duke will feature five straight home matches.
Rookie Mary Long has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer First Team Freshman Best XI Team.
The trio of Hannah Bebar (Midfielder), Farrah Walters(Forward) and Kat Rader (Forward) were named to the United Soccer Coaches watch lists for preseason honors.
The Blue Devils return 10 starters and 17 letterwinners from the previous season. Of the 15 goals scored in 2023, the Blue Devils return players that scored 13 of those led by Kat Rader (7), Carina Lageyre (2) and Katie Groff(2).
Duke brought in four transfers for the 2024 campaign that feature excellent resumes. Hannah Bebar, Farrah Walters, Ella Hase and Mia Oliaro have combined to play in 141 matches with 132 starts, scored 48 goals, added 42 assists and notched 138 points over their careers.
The Blue Devils were preseason ranked No. 24 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll, which marks the ninth time out of the last 10 years Duke has been ranked in the preseason.
The last time Duke head coach Robbie Church dealt with a losing season was in 2014 and the next year he led the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup.

Duke will take its eight natives of California back to their home state in October for a week-long road trip to play Stanford (Oct. 10) and California (Oct. 13).Â
Over the last 10 matches dating back to last year, Duke has scored only five goals in those contests. The last time the Blue Devils scored two goals in a match was at Boston College on Sept. 17.

Duke features a 2-3-0 all-time ledger against Nebraska.

 LONG HEADS TO TRAINING WITH U.S. U-17 SQUAD
Duke freshman Mary Long will miss the Nebraska match as she received her second call to train with the U.S. Under-17 Women's Youth National Team. Long is with the U-17 squad in Chula Vista, Calif., from Aug. 18-23. It marks the final training camp before the roster is selected for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Long is coming off an impressive showing in the last U.S. U-17 camp as she tallied a pair of goals in the final match against Brazil. The 5-10 midfielder/forward made her Duke debut at Ohio State and tallied nine minutes of action with one shot.
The 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be contested Oct. 16 through Nov. 3 at two stadiums in the Dominican Republic. The USA will face Spain, Colombia and Korea Republic in Group B. The U.S. opens against reigning champion Spain on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Félix Sánchez Stadium in Santo Domingo. The USA will then face 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup runners-up Colombia at Félix Sánchez Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19 and finished group play against Korea Republic on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Cibao University Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros.
 LAST TIME OUT
Despite outshooting Ohio State, 21-9, the Blue Devils dropped a 1-0 decision on the road in Columbus, Ohio last week to open the regular season.
Junior Carina Lageyre attempted a career-high five shots to pace the Blue Devils.
Leah Freeman started in goal for Duke and made two saves over 90 minutes of play.
