DURHAM, N.C. βΒ The 2024 Duke field hockey season is underway as the Blue Devils hit the turf this morning for day one of preseason camp. Duke will practice for six days before its first exhibition against James Madison Aug. 18.
The Blue Devils, returning eight starters and welcoming seven newcomers, opened the day with fitness testing and skill work before playing in a small-sided game. Duke capped the first day of workouts with an intrasquad scrimmage under the lights on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
Duke will play a pair of exhibition games against James Madison (Aug. 18 at 12 p.m.) and North Carolina (Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.) before opening the 2024 campaign at home Aug. 30 against William & Mary. First hit is set for 2 p.m., with Duke football set to kickoff its 2024 season that evening at 7:30 p.m.
Under the direction of head coachΒ
Pam BustinΒ in her 14th season with the program, the Blue Devils are coming off one of their best seasons in program history. Duke finished 18-5 overall and captured a share of the ACC regular season crown while advancing to the program's seventh NCAA semifinal.
Duke welcomes back its top scorer in
Alaina McVeigh and two of its starting backs β
Megan Maransky and
Josephine Veen β from a season ago. The Blue Devils are also excited to get the talents of
Shelby Bumgarner,
Maggie Kondrath and
Sophia Miller back from injury.
The addition of seven newcomers, including a pair of graduate student transfers, will bolster the talented Blue Devil lineup.
The Blue Devils officially kick off the 2024 campaign August 30 against William & Mary at 2 p.m., on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
