DURHAM – Duke freshman
AJ Gracia and
Kyle Johnson were tabbed to D1Baseball's freshman All-American teams, the organization announced on Friday.
Gracia was awarded with his third first team recognition, while Johnson was tabbed to the second team as a utility player. The Atlantic Coast Conference led all conferences with 10 total selections, with eight being on the first team. The SEC followed with six recipients in all.
Gracia, a 6-foot-3 outfielder from Monroe, N.J., started all 60 games this season primarily in right field. The lefty posted a .305 average at the plate, scoring 56 runs, collecting 67 hits, 14 doubles, 14 home runs and 58 RBI. He enjoyed a .559 slugging percentage and a .440 on base percentage, while leading the Blue Devils in walks with 48 in 2024. Gracia also broke both the Duke freshman RBI record, passing big leaguer and former Blue Devil
Joey Loperfido (2018), and home run record, passing
Andrew Fischer last season.
Johnson, a 6-foot-1 utility player from Leesburg, Va., shined both on the mound and in the field during the 2024 campaign. On the mound, he posted a 4.38 ERA and tallied a 4-1 record in his 15 appearances (10 starts). The lefty worked 49.1 innings, allowing 24 earned runs to score and punched out 53 batters. At the plate, Johnson appeared in 39 games (34 starts) posting a .253 average at the dish. He scored 16 runs, collected 19 hits, six doubles, one triple and three home runs. He drove in 11 RBI, walking 17 times in his freshman campaign.
