Women's Golf Breaking Records in 50th Season

DURHAM – The Duke women's golf program is coming off collecting its second team victory of the season this past weekend at the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Fla. The Blue Devils did so in record fashion carding the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history with a 30-under-par, 834.

In the two team wins in 2023-24, Duke has turned in some impressive numbers and is rewriting the Blue Devil and NCAA record books in the process.

Duke turned in a 17-under, 271, in the final round of the Landfall Tradition in October to close the fall. It matched a school record for lowest 18-hole score in Blue Devil history on a par-72 course and led Duke to the team win with a 21-under ledger.

All five Blue Devil golfers shot under par in the final round in Wilmington led by Anne Chen's 8-under, 64, while Phoebe Brinker added a 4-under, 68, and Emma McMyler signed for a 3-under, 69. The five golfers combined to roll in a season-high 29 birdies along the way.

Fast forward to this past weekend in Florida when the Blue Devils went even lower.

After opening the first round with a 7-under, 281, at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club on Friday, Duke came out in the afternoon and went even lower, much lower. Duke drained a season-high 31 birdies en route to shooting a school-record 24-under, 264, which was the third-lowest 18-hole score in NCAA history.

The Blue Devils carded a school-record 31-under, 545, over the first 36 holes on a par-72 course and led by 14 strokes heading into the final round. During the 36 holes, Duke shot 26-under on the par-5 holes and collected 49 birdies.

Duke freshman Katie Li led the charge with back-to-back rounds of 66 to take the individual lead with a school-record 12-under-par, 132. She became the first Blue Devil freshman to card to two straight rounds of 66 or better and shot a tournament-best 10-under on par-5 holes.

Once again Chen was in the mix with an impressive round as she shot 7-under, 65, while Andie Smith matched her with a 7-under, 65 as well for the Blue Devils. McMyler added a 4-under, 68, for Duke in the process.

Duke closed the tournament by shooting even par in the final round to win by 10 strokes with a 30-under, 834, which was the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history. Li, a native of Basking Ridge, N.J., claimed her first collegiate victory with a 12-under-par, 204, to win by two strokes.

The 54-hole score of 204 by Li was tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in Duke history on a par-72 course and became the first Blue Devil freshman to win a tournament since Gina Kim in 2018-19. Li became the 16th freshman to win an event in Duke history.

Duke features one regular season event remaining, before heading into postseason action. The Blue Devils next travel to Aiken, S.C., for The Old Barnwell Match Play.

With her two rounds of even or under par over the weekend at Florida State, senior Phoebe Brinker now owns 47 rounds of even or under par to move into a tie for ninth on Duke's all-time record books.
Brinker also registered her 300th birdie over her Duke career in the Florida State Match Play becoming the 12th Blue Devil to reach the 300-birdie mark.She needs one more to move into a tie with Virginia Elena Carta for 11th.
Freshman Katie Li has now registered 12 rounds of even or under par on the season to move into a tie for 10th on Duke's freshman charts.
Duke head coach Dan Brooks now owns 143 all-time wins as a Blue Devil and continues to be the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history.
Brooks is in his 40th season as the head coach at Duke and the Blue Devils are competing in the 50th season of women's golf at Duke.
