DURHAM – The Duke women's tennis team will conclude its non-conference portion of its 2024 dual match slate on Wednesday, March 13 as the 24th-ranked Blue Devils (9-5) face 37th-ranked Princeton (8-3) at 3:30 p.m., in Orlando, Fla., at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.
The Series with Princeton
Duke and Princeton will face off for the 20th time in school history. The Blue Devils are 16-3 all-time in the series and have won their last 13 matches. In its latest matchup on Jan. 26, 2024, Duke managed to defeat Princeton, 4-0.
Scouting Princeton
Princeton owns an 8-3 record on the season, after defeating Penn State, 4-2, in its latest match. In the latest ITA rankings, the Tigers slot at No. 37 overall as a team. In doubles, the duo of Maia Sung and Isabella Chhiv are ranked (65).
Duke Versus the Ivy League
The Blue Devils own a 35-4 record versus the Ivy League Conference—Brown (2-0), Columbia (2-0), Dartmouth (1-0), Harvard (6-0), Penn (2-0), Princeton (16-3), Yale (7-1). Duke is on a current 28-match win streak versus Ivy League opponents.

On Jan. 26 in Durham, the Blue Devils collected the doubles point as
Karolina Berankova and
Shavit Kimchi teamed to defeat Maia Sung and Bella Chhiv on court one, 6-3. Duke's
Brianna Shvets and
Iuliia Bryzgalova also won, 6-2, over Neha Velaga and Madeleine Jessup. In singles action, Duke received wins by Kimchi,
Ellie Coleman and Shvets.
Hey, I Know You
Duke graduate student
Brianna Shvets will face her former squad this week for the second time as she was a four-year letterwinner at Princeton from 2018-22. She tallied a 59-26 ledger in singles and 46-25 mark in doubles. Shvets graduated from Princeton in May of 2022 with a degree in public policy and international affairs. She is currently enrolled in the Daytime MBA program at Duke Fuqua School of Business.
Kimchi Named ACC Freshman of the Week
For the second time this season, Duke rookie
Shavit Kimchi has been tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week, which was announced March 12.
Kimchi posted a 2-0 record on the week in singles, while leading the Blue Devils to a victory over 46th-ranked Clemson. On Friday against the Tigers, Kimchi collected a 6-1, 7-5 win against Daniella Medvedeva to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils. Kimchi has clinched five of the nine wins for Duke on the season and is one away from matching the school record for a freshman (since 2005-06).
In Sunday's match versus Georgia Tech, Kimchi collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alejandra Cruz to give her three wins out of her last four matches on the year. It marked her third ACC singles win of the season and eighth dual match victory. She shared this week's honor along with Tatum Evans of North Carolina.
What is Next?
Duke will next be on the road at Wake Forest (March 22) and at NC State (March 24) as the Blue Devils return to ACC action.

Duke is ranked No. 24 nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The Blue Devils have been listed in the top-16 of the preseason ITA poll each of the last 24 seasons, after earning a No. 15 preseason ranking.

Iuliia Bryzgalova and
Brianna Shvets – are approaching the 100-win singles mark of their careers.
Bryzgalova features 97 wins over her career at Duke and Penn, while Shvets owns 96 wins at Duke and Princeton.
With her doubles win recently, Bryzgalova totaled her 100th career doubles win and moved her career doubles ledger to 101-30. She also owns a 69-14 career dual match doubles mark and is 25-2 over her time in the ACC and Ivy League in doubles.
Ashworth Reaches 600 Wins
Head coach
Jamie Ashworth reached his 600th victory on Jan. 20 in a 4-2 win over Illinois. He accomplished this mark in only 747 matches becoming the quickest coach to 600 wins.

Noting the Blue Devils
- Duke junior Ellie Coleman missed the last six matches since the Blue Devils opened ACC action.Coleman is ranked No. 90 nationally in singles.
- Iuliia Bryzgalova has won five out of her last seven singles matches, while Brianna Shvets has won 10 out of her last 13.
- Junior Emma Jackson registered her third career victory over a top-10 opponent recently as she defeated 10th-ranked Alexa Noel of Miami with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win on the road.Jackson now owns seven victories on the season against ranked foes.She owns 12 wins over her last 15 singles matches.
- After seeing limited action as a freshman, Katie Codd had an impressive fall totaling a 7-3 record, including winners of five out of her final six matches.She tallied a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Vanderbilt's Celia Belle Mohr for the highest ranked victory of her career. Codd won her first six dual matches of her collegiate career.Codd is currently 6-0 on the season playing at the No. 4 singles slot.
- So far this season, Duke has received three ACC weekly honors – Shavit Kimchi (ACC Freshman of the Week twice) and Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova (ACC Doubles Team of the Week).
- The Blue Devils have won 53 out of the last 54 matches when winning the doubles point.Duke had won 47 in a row, before a defeat in the NCAA Tournament second round last season to UCLA.
- In the fall, freshman Shavit Kimchi became the first Blue Devil to open her collegiate career with a pair of top-30 ranked wins since Beatrice Capra accomplished it in 2010-11.Over the last 17 years, only Kimchi and Capra registered this feat.
