Emily Cole of women's track and field and cross country is TBP's second guest. Cole, a senior from Houston, was an all-state runner in high school. She set a Texas record in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. From there, she carried on her success on the track at Duke. Cole currently is the captain of Duke's track and field and cross country teams. She is an ACC silver medalist and All-American in the 3000m steeplechase, as well as a two-time US Championships qualifier in the 3000m steeplechase.
In addition to her athletic successes, Cole is also a published author on sports nutrition. Following a major health scare as a senior in high school, she went into a coma as a result of insufficient sodium in her body. This experience inspired her significant interest in nutrition, culminating in the publication of her bestselling book, The Players' Plate: An Unorthodox Guide to Sports Nutrition. In The Players' Plate, Cole helps her fellow athletes come to realize just how different their nutritional needs are from the general public and equips them with the knowledge to find their optimal fueling plan from both a physical and mental standpoint.
Cole also is a leading voice in the NIL space with over 500,000 followers across all social media platforms. Her current and past partnerships include Therabody, Dicks's Sporting Goods, LMNT, Oofos, Garmin and H&R Block. She has been featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Sports Business Journal and Boardroom magazines for her outstanding achievements both on and off the track.
In this episode, Shelby and Emily detail Emily's health scare, the inspiration and publishing of Cole's book and Cole's emergence onto the NIL scene. They also dive into Cole's life as an influencer and her athletic endeavors.
