DURHAM – Junior left-handed pitcher
Jonathan Santucci earned a preseason All-America nod from
Baseball America on Monday, being named to the second team.
Santucci, a 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher, started seven games for Duke before having his season cut short due to injury. The 2022 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Camp invitee posted a 2-2 record on the mound with a 4.30 ERA. He punched out a career-high 11 batters against Wake Forest (3/10) and allowed a season low two hits against North Carolina (3/24). In his first four starts of the year, Santucci tallied 38 strikeouts to just four walks.
In addition to Santucci being named to the second team by
Baseball America, the publication also tabbed the Leominster, Mass., native as being in the top three for best fastball movement in the country. Santucci (2), was joined on that list by Ben Hess (1) of Alabama and Michael Massey (3) of Wake Forest.
