DURHAM – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Duke fencing team is set to travel to South Bend, Ind., for the 2024 ACC Fencing Championship.
Setting the Scene
- The championships will be held Saturday and Sunday at Notre Dame's Castellan Family Fencing Center in South Bend, Ind.
- The championships begin at 8 a.m., Saturday with the men's individual round robin while the women's follow at 2:30 p.m. The team competition will be held Sunday with the men's team event at 8 a.m., followed by the women's portion at 12:15 p.m.
- This marks the 10th ACC Fencing Championship since fencing returned as a league-sponsored sport.
- Notre Dame is serving as the host for the third time — 2016, 2020.
- The fifth-ranked Duke women are 25-4 this season while the 10th-ranked Blue Devil men are 11-12.
- Notre Dame is the two-time reigning champion on both the men's and women's sides.
- The Duke women earned the top seed in the team event while the men are fourth.

- The men's and women's individual semifinals and finals, as well as the team championship, will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. Coverage of the men's semifinals and finals begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m., while the women's semifinals and finals start at 7 p.m., the same day. Team finals coverage begins at 8 a.m. (men's) and 12:15 p.m. (women's) on Sunday.
Duke Meet Successes
- The fifth-ranked Duke women's fencing team secured a 4-0 sweep at the Duke Invitational in Card Gymnasium.
- Duke secured victories over No. 1 (DIII) Johns Hopkins (20-7), No. 4 (DIII) Brandeis (22-5), No. 9 Temple (14-13) and Air Force (17-10).
- Duke was led by senior epeeist Chloe Beittel with nine victories while freshman saberist Victoria Gorman collected seven.
- The 10th-ranked men's team fell to No. 1 Johns Hopkins (DIII) (15-12), No. 3 Brandeis (DIII) (14-13) and Air Force, 14-13.
- Both matches against Brandeis and Air Force were decided by one bout.
- Samir Travers paced Duke with an 8-1 ledger, while Stephen Kim went 7-2.
A Look Back at 2023
- Two returning Blue Devils — Chloe Beittel (epee) and Christina Ferrari (foil) — brought home silver in their respective weapons at the 2023 ACC Fencing Championship.
- As a team, the women finished second while the men tied for second place.
