DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off matching a NCAA Tournament record with four goals this past weekend, Duke women's soccer sophomore Mia Minestrella was named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
A native of Redondo Beach, Calif., Minestrella scored two goals in the first and second halves along with adding an assist to help lead the Blue Devils to an 8-0 first round victory against Howard on Friday. She became just the 10th player in NCAA history to record four goals in a tournament contest. Minestrella's four goals were a Duke and ACC record as well.
Minestrella also registered an assist and finished the match with a school-record nine points. She now owns a tied for team-best 12 goals on the season and a team-high 30 points. Duke's eight goals were a school record in a NCAA Tournament match, while the 24 points matched a Blue Devil record in NCAA play.
Duke will next host the NCAA Tournament second round beginning on Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m., as No. 21 Texas faces No. 16 Michigan State inside Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils will then welcome 17th-ranked Texas Tech at 6:30 p.m. Both winning teams will then play Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m., in Durham. All three matches will be aired live on ESPN+.
