DURHAM, N.C. – No. 16 Duke is back on the road this weekend as the Blue Devils make the trip to Brookings, S.D., for a date with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Sunday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET live on CBS Sports Network.
THE OPENING TIP:
- Sunday's matchup will be the first meeting between the schools in their respective histories. The Blue Devils are 2-0 all-time against teams from the Summit League.
- The Blue Devils enter the weekend 3-1 overall and coming off a commanding victory over Dayton, 84-49, that featured six players in double figures.
- Duke's offense has been on a tear to open the year with the Blue Devils putting up 84.0 points per game on 46-percent shooting.
- The Blue Devils have had at least four players reach double digits in every game and have scored 80-plus points in each of the four outings. It marks the longest streak of 80-point showings to open the season since the 2014-15 campaign.
- Duke's balanced attack is led by the double-figure quartet of Toby Fournier (13.3), Reigan Richardson (12.3), Ashlon Jackson (12.0) and Jordan Wood (10.8).
- The Blue Devils feature 10 players averaging at least 12 minutes with five playing 20-plus minutes - Ashlon Jackson (25.9), Jadyn Donovan (22.5), Reigan Richardson (21.8), Taina Mair (20.9) and Delaney Thomas (20.9).
- Sixty-six of the Blue Devils' 123 field goals this season have been assisted (.537) - equating to 16.5 dimes per game. Mair spearheads the charge with 3.8.
- Jadyn Donovan paces the efforts on the glass with just under eight caroms per game (7.8). She has corralled nine or more rebounds in three of the first four, including a season-best 10 boards at Maryland (11.10).
- Toby Fournier has gotten her collegiate career off to a rapid start, showcasing she's a force to be reckoned with right out of the gate. In addition to leading the team in scoring, she also ranks second in rebounding with 5.3 per contest.
- Fournier is the first Duke freshman since Rebecca Greenwell to open her career with at least four consecutive games in double figures.
- Duke has received a huge lift from its reserves this season, checking in at No. 6 nationally with 41.5 bench points per game (NCAA rankings as of 11.15).
- The Blue Devils have wreaked havoc defensively, averaging 17.0 steals per game and forcing the opposition into 25.0 turnovers per outing. Those marks lead the ACC and rank 11th and 26th, respectively, in the NCAA (NCAA rankings as of 11.15).
LAST TIME OUT:
- Sophomore Jordan Wood netted a career-high 17 points to lead six Blue Devil double-digit scorers in a convincing 84-49 victory over Dayton in non-conference women's basketball action Thursday evening.
- Wood finished her night shooting 8-of-11 from the field and added three rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist to her stellar stat line.
- Freshman Toby Fournier had her fourth double-figure outing with 15 points while Reigan Richardson found her groove in the second half with nine of her 12 on the night.
- Oluchi Okananwa dropped in 11 and Vanessa de Jesus and Ashlon Jackson both had 10.
- Duke shot 50 percent from the field for the game and got 58 points off the bench in the victory.
- Defensively, the Blue Devils held the Flyers to just 32 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers.
FOURNIER TAKING FLIGHT:
- Rookie Toby Fournier has gotten her collegiate career off to a rapid start, showcasing she's a force to be reckoned with right out of the gate.
- In 18.7 minutes per game, Fournier has maximized her efficiency averaging 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds - No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on the team.
- Her impact can also be felt on the defensive end, tallying 1.50 steals and 1.0 blocks as well.
- She has reached double figures in each of Duke's first four games, including back-to-back outings at Maryland and versus Dayton with a career-best 15 points.
- Fournier is the first Duke freshman since Rebecca Greenwell to open her career with at least four consecutive games in double figures. Greenwell began the 2014-15 season with six straight.
WREAKING HAVOC:
- The Blue Devils have wreaked havoc defensively averaging 17.0 steals per game and forcing the opposition into 25.0 turnovers a night.
- Those marks lead the ACC and rank 11th and 26th, respectively, in the NCAA (NCAA rankings as of 11.15).
- Duke has caused 20-plus giveaways in each of the first four games, including 34 by Radford in the season opener (11.4).
- The Blue Devils have also racked up 15 or more steals in each contest, posting a season-best 19 against the Highlanders (11.4).
- As a team, Duke has totaled 68 thefts on the year. Six different Blue Devils own at least five steals and four have registered seven or more.
- Sophomores Oluchi Okananwa and Delaney Thomas lead the charge with a dozen steals each (3.0 spg), classmate Jadyn Donovan and junior Ashlon Jackson next in line with eight apiece.
- Graduate student Vanessa de Jesus and rookie Toby Fournier have each registered six thefts while junior Taina Mair and sophomore Jordan Wood round out the group with five each.
BENCH MOB:
- Duke has received a huge lift from its reserves this season, checking in at No. 6 nationally with 41.5 bench points per game (NCAA rankings as of 11.15).
- In the 84-49 victory over Dayton (11.4) Thursday, the Blue Devils erupted for 58 points off the bench with four of the team's six double-figure scorers being reserves.
- Freshman Toby Fournier and sophomore Jordan Wood have led the charge thus far, with the duo combining to average 24.0 points and 9.3 boards per game.
- Fournier has raised her level of play each time she's stepped on the court and is one of just two Duke players to score double digits in each game.
- She paces the Blue Devils in scoring at 13.3 points per game and is second on the glass with 5.3 caroms per game.
- After seeing limited action in 2023-24, Wood (10.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg) has thrived in a larger role and been an impact player for the Blue Devils. She has put up 43 points in four games after totaling just 19 all of last year.
- The Chicago, Ill., native has posted double figures in three of the first four games, most recently notching a career-high 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, three rebounds and three steals against Dayton (11.14).
- Reigning ACC Sixth POTY Oluchi Okananwa (6.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg) picked up right where she left off and continues to inject a jolt of energy off the Duke bench, with Vanessa de Jesus (5.0 ppg, 2.8 apg) and Emma Koabel (3.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg) providing solid contributions as well.
- Okananwa (11) and de Jesus (10) found their groove in the win over Dayton (11.4), combining for 21 points. Okananwa added five boards, three dimes and two steals while de Jesus tallied three caroms and two helpers.
