DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men's golf head coach
Jamie Green has announced the signings of
Charles Nelson and
Alexander Weinberg from the recruiting class of 2025. Both players are ranked inside the top-100 by Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) and will join the Blue Devils in the fall of 2025.
"Both Charles and Alexander are absolutely perfect fits for our men's golf program and for Duke University," sad Green. "As cliché as it may sound, both are extremely well-rounded. They excel in the classroom, not just because of raw intellect, but more importantly, because of terrific decision-making, prioritizing, and organizational skills. Those traits, in particular, are why I believe each is perfect match for Duke."
Weinberg is currently ranked No. 48 in the Class of 2025 by JGS and signs with the Blue Devils while sporting a -4.87 scoring differential. A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Weinberg attends Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and won the Class 1A Florida State High School Championship in 2023 before securing a fifth-place finish in the same event in November of 2024.
"Alexander has evolved into a much more dominant-thinking competitor, and we love that about him," said Green. "Coupled with his skills from tee to green and making clutch putts, his devotion to strength training, mass-building nutrition, and good overall health habits over the last 9-10 months have further readied him for the collegiate game."Â
Weinberg has highlighted his 2024 play with three top-five finishes, including a win on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour at Indian Spring, carding rounds of 3-under, 1-under and 1-under to secure the medalist honors at 5-under, 211.
Weinberg was also recently named an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Scholastic Junior All-American on Monday, Nov. 12 and is a 2025 National Merit Scholarship Commended Student. He co-founded Green Golf Impact, Inc., a charitable company that he operates with his siblings, Jonathan and Stephanie, with a goal of making golf a more sustainable sport.
Nelson is ranked 73rd by JGS for the Class of 2025 and 27th by AJGA and currently holds a -4.09 scoring differential. Born in North Carolina, Nelson currently lives in Dallas, Texas and attends Highland Park High School. Nelson picked up his first win of the 2024 calendar in May, winning the AJGA Mayakoba Invitational – one of the highest ranked AJGA events by strength of field. Nelson started his tournament with a 4-over, 75, but responded with a 1-under, 70, and bogey-free 6-under, 65, to claim the title.
"Athletically, Charles has quite a bit of power, and I believe even more in the tank which will show up in the next four years and beyond," said Green. "He's shown, for a few years now, he's comfortable 'getting in the red' on many types of golf courses. Charles's game has also become increasingly more versatile over the last year and that's helped him turn in better rounds of golf on the days when things aren't clicking."
Nelson also took home medalist honors at the 2023 AJGA Under Armour/Jordan Spieth Championship after receiving a sponsor exemption into his hometown event. After playing the first two rounds at 3-under, Nelson caught fire in the final round and signed for a 6-under, 65, to take home the win.
Nelson was named a 2024 AJGA Junior All-America Honorable Mention and has also been recognized for various achievements off the course, including being named a AJGA Leadership Links Member, a National Honor Society Honoree, and winning the Presidential Service Award.
