NEED TO KNOW
- The second-ranked Duke women's soccer team (8-1-0, 3-0-0) is set to close a three-match homestand Sunday, Oct. 6 by hosting Louisville (6-4-2, 1-3-0) at 1 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
- Sunday's contest will be aired live on ACC Network Extra with Dean Linke (PXP) and Matt Stradley (Analyst) on the call.
- The Blue Devils have tied a school record by scoring three or more goals in five straight matches (1990). Duke is one of only three schools nationally to feature a current 5-game stretch with 3+ goals (Utah Valley, FIU).
- Duke has scored a goal in the first half in eight straight matches, which is tied for the second-longest streak in Blue Devil history.
- On the season, Duke has scored 29 goals by 12 different players.
- Robbie Church announced on July 22, 2024 he will be retiring at the end of the season and Duke will be promoting associate head coach Kieran Hall to head coach in 2025. Current assistant coach Carla Overbeck will move to associate head coach in 2025 as well.
STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
- For the sixth time in program lore, Duke has opened ACC play with a 3-0 record (2024, 2022, 2017, 2011, 1997). If the Blue Devils win Sunday, Duke will open ACC play with a 4-0 ledger for only the third time (2017, 1997).
- Fifth year Ella Hase owns six assists, all of which have come over the last five matches. She tallied two against Missouri and SMU. Her six assists ranks tied for third in the ACC.
- Devin Lynch has scored or assisted in five straight matches, which are also Lynch's first five starts of the year. She owns three goals and five assists during that stretch.
- Duke finished the month of September with a 5-0 ledger, which marked only the second undefeated month of September in program history (2017 - 8-0).
- Maggie Graham owns four goals over her last seven matches, while adding four assists. She owns 12 points on the season. Graham has scored or assisted in six out of the last seven contests.
- Carina Lageyre has tallied a tied for team-best five assists on the season, which ranks tied for sixth in the ACC.
- Duke has scored 29 goals the last eight matches, while the Blue Devils scored a total of 15 goals a season ago in 16 contests.
- Blue Devil head coach Robbie Church reached the 300-win mark against SMU. He is the winningest coach in Duke history.
- The last time the Blue Devils dropped a season opener was in 2017. Duke went on to win 19 straight matches after the loss and made an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.
- Duke was shutout in the season opener for the first time since 2014, which was also a loss to Ohio State (1-0).
- The last time Duke head coach Robbie Church dealt with a losing season was in 2014 and the next year he led the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup.

THE SERIES WITH LOUISVILLE
- Duke and Louisville will meet for the 11th time in program history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 4-1-5.
- In matches played in Durham, Duke holds a 2-0-2 ledger, including two straight wins.
- Last year, the Blue Devils dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Louisville, which concluded their season and kept Duke out of the NCAA Tournament.

- Duke's Phoebe Goldthwaite and Mia Oliaro teamed with Louisville's Mackenzie Geigle helped lead the NC Courage's USL W-League U-23 squad to the championship over the summer of 2024.

LONG NAMED TO U.S. U-17 WORLD CUP SQUAD
- Duke freshman Mary Long has been named to represent the United States Under-17 Women's Youth National Team at the 2024 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup, which will be held in the Dominican Republic from Oct. 16 through Nov. 3.
- Long, a product of Mission Hills, Kan., has appeared in eight matches off the bench for the Blue Devils so far in her rookie campaign, while scoring two goals. She is one of only four collegiate players named to the U.S. squad. Long will see action in Duke's two matches this week against Virginia and Louisville, before heading to meet up with the U.S. squad.
- The U.S. will open action Oct. 16 in Group B against Spain.
- Long missed the Nebraska match as well earlier this season as she was training with the U-17 squad.
FREEMAN NETS ACC HONORS
- After leading Duke to its seventh-straight victory on Friday, Blue Devil fifth year goalkeeper Leah Freeman has been tabbed the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
- Freeman helped the Blue Devils collect a 3-0 shutout victory over SMU on last week to move to 2-0 in ACC play. Freeman played the full 90 minutes in goal, collected four saves and notched her 26th career clean sheet.
- The honor for Freeman was her first in the ACC. She earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week accolades three different times prior to arriving in Durham.
High-scoring offense
- Since the season opener, the Blue Devils have tallied 29 goals in eight matches.
- The 29 goals over the first nine matches ranks tied for sixth on Duke's all-time record charts -- 35 (1989), 33 (2004), 32 (2012), 31 (1990), 30 (2008) and 29 (2024, 1993).
- The Blue Devils tallied four goals in the first half against Missouri. It was the most since Oct. 10, 2021 against ECU.
- The seven goals against Missouri were a season high for the Blue Devils and the most since Nov. 21, 2021 against St. John's (7).
- The 21 goals over the last five matches for the Blue Devils are the most since 2004. The most goals over a five-game stretch are 24 goals (1990), 23 (2004) and 21 (1989, 2024).
- Duke ranks second in the ACC in points per game with a 10.3 average behind Florida State (10.4). The Blue Devils are also second in goals per game (3.2).
- For the first time in Duke history, the Blue Devils have scored three or more goals in the first three ACC matches of the season.
STRONG DEFENSE
- Over nine matches, Duke has allowed only three goals against Ohio State, Clemson and Virginia.
- The Blue Devils had totaled five straight shutouts prior to allowing a first half goal against Clemson. Duke's scoreless streak of 511:94 ranked as the fifth-longest in program history (since 2002).
- Duke's three goals allowed leads the ACC with the next closest being Stanford (4).
- The Blue Devils rank tied for second nationally with two goals allowed on the year behind Mississippi State (2).
- The three goals allowed over the first nine games to open a season is tied for the fewest in program history -- 3 (2005, 2024), 4 (1988, 2010, 2011, 2018).
- Duke's defense has allowed only 13 corner kicks in the last nine matches as well.
LACK OF SHOTS/CORNERS
- Duke's defense has only allowed 53 shots to open the season, which is the fewest allowed in the ACC (Florida State - 75).
- The Blue Devils have allowed only 44 shots the last eight matches for an average of 5.5 per game.
OFFENSIVE ATTACK
- Duke's 20.9 shots per game average on the season currently ranks third in the ACC and eighth nationally -- Florida State (23.7), Pitt (23.2) and Duke (20.9).
- The Blue Devils are averaging 3.2 goals a game this season, which ranks second in the ACC and fourth nationally.
