NEED TO KNOW
- Riding a seven-match winning streak, the second-ranked Duke women's soccer team continues its homestand Thursday, Sept. 3 as the Blue Devils (7-1, 2-0-0 ACC) host 25th-ranked Virginia (8-3-0, 1-3-0) at Koskinen Stadium for a 7 p.m., opening kick.Â
- Thursday's contest will be aired live on ACC Network Extra with Dean Linke (PXP) and Matt Stradley (Analyst) on the call.
- Duke has scored a goal in the first half in seven straight matches, which is the longest streak since 2017 when the Blue Devils had eight matches in a row in August/September.
- For the first time in program history under head coach Robbie Church, Duke has scored three or more goals in four straight matches. The Blue Devils also accomplished this in 1990, 1997 and 2000 under Bill Hempen.Â
- On the season, Duke has scored 26 goals by 12 different players.
- Robbie Church announced on July 22, 2024 he will be retiring at the end of the season and Duke will be promoting associate head coach Kieran Hall to head coach in 2025. Current assistant coach Carla Overbeck will move to associate head coach in 2025 as well.Â

STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
- Blue Devil head coach Robbie Church reached the 300-win mark in the last match against SMU. He is the winningest coach in Duke history.
- For the ninth time in program lore, Duke has opened ACC play with a 2-0 record (2024, 2022, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2011, 2004, 1997, 1995).Â
- Fifth year Ella Hase owns five assists, all of which have come over the last four matches. She tallied two against Missouri and SMU. Her five assists ranks tied for fourth in the ACC.Â
- Devin Lynch has scored or assisted in four straight matches, which are also Lynch's first four starts of the year. She owns two goals and four assists during that stretch.
- Duke finished the month of September with a 5-0 ledger, which marked only the second undefeated month of September in program history (2017 - 8-0).
- Maggie Graham owns four goals over her last six matches, while adding a pair of assists. She owns 10 points on the season.Â
- Carina Lageyre has tallied a tied for team-best five assists on the season, which ranks tied for fourth in the ACC.
- Duke has scored 26 goals the last seven matches, while the Blue Devils scored a total of 15 goals a season ago in 16 contests.
- Duke's 4-0 win against UNCW was the 250th win in program history at home.
- The last time the Blue Devils dropped a season opener was in 2017. Duke went on to win 19 straight matches after the loss and made an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.
- Duke was shutout in the season opener for the first time since 2014, which was also a loss to Ohio State (1-0).
- The last time Duke head coach Robbie Church dealt with a losing season was in 2014 and the next year he led the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup.
- Duke will take its eight natives of California back to their home state in October for a week-long road trip to play Stanford (Oct. 10) and California (Oct. 13).Â

THE SERIES WITH VIRGINIA
- Duke holds a 17-21-10 all-time ledger with the Cavaliers.
- In matches played in Durham, the Blue Devils are 6-9-5 and have not defeated Virginia since Oct. 15, 2016.
- Over the last eight meetings, the Cavaliers hold a 4-1-3 ledger against Duke.

- Duke graduate student Maggie Graham along with Virginia's Helen Symbas and Allie Ross went to The Westminster Schools together. Graham also played with Laney Rouse on the NC Courage USL-W team.Â
- The Duke California duo of Elle Piper and Julia Saunicheva played club soccer with Virginia's Yuna McCormack and Kathryn Kelly. They were three-time National Champions.
- Duke's Kaeden Koons-Perdikis went to Georgetown Visitation with Kira Waller, a freshman on the Virginia team. They played high school soccer there together and won two ISL championships.
- Duke's Katie Groff played club soccer at NC Courage Developmental Academy with Laney Rouse.

LONG NAMED TO U.S. U-17 WORLD CUP SQUAD
- Duke freshman Mary Long has been named to represent the United States Under-17 Women's Youth National Team at the 2024 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup, which will be held in the Dominican Republic from Oct. 16 through Nov. 3.
- Long, a product of Mission Hills, Kan., has appeared in seven matches off the bench for the Blue Devils so far in her rookie campaign, while scoring two goals. She is one of only four collegiate players named to the U.S. squad. Long will see action in Duke's two matches this week against Virginia and Louisville, before heading to meet up with the U.S. squad.
- The U.S. will open action Oct. 16 in Group B against Spain.
- Long missed the Nebraska match as well earlier this season as she was training with the U-17 squad.

FREEMAN NETS ACC HONORS
- After leading Duke to its seventh-straight victory on Friday, Blue Devil fifth year goalkeeper Leah Freeman has been tabbed the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
- Freeman helped the Blue Devils collect a 3-0 shutout victory over SMU on Friday to move to 2-0 in ACC play. Freeman played the full 90 minutes in goal, collected four saves and notched her 26th career clean sheet. Her three shutouts on the year ranks tied for seventh in the ACC.Â
- Freeman has allowed only two goals in eight matches on the year, while leading the ACC and ranking tied for first nationally. The four saves were her second-most this season in a contest, after totaling five against second-ranked North Carolina earlier this season.
- The honor for Freeman is her first in the ACC. She earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week accolades three different times prior to arriving in Durham.Â

HIGH-SCORING OFFENSE
- Since the season opener, the Blue Devils have tallied 26 goals in seven matches.Â
- The 26 goals over the first eight matches ranks tied for seventh on Duke's all-time record charts -- 30 (1989), 29 (2012), 27 (1990, 1993, 2000, 2008) and 26 (2024, 1994).
- The Blue Devils tallied four goals in the first half against Missouri. It was the most since Oct. 10, 2021 against ECU.Â
- The seven goals against Missouri were a season high for the Blue Devils and the most since Nov. 21, 2021 against St. John's (7).
- The 18 goals over the last four matches for the Blue Devils is the most since 2019. The most goals over a four-game stretch are 21 goals (2004, 1990), 19 (1989), 18 (2024, 2019, 1995).
- Duke ranks second in the ACC in points per game with a 10.3 average behind Florida State (11.2). The Blue Devils are also second in goals per game (3.3).
- For only the third time in Duke history, the Blue Devils have scored three or more goals in the first two ACC matches of the season (2017, 1997).Â

STRONG DEFENSE
- Over eight matches, Duke has allowed only two goals against Ohio State in the season opener and at Clemson.
- The Blue Devils had totaled five straight shutouts prior to allowing a first half goal against Clemson. Duke's scoreless streak of 511:94 ranked as the fifth-longest in program history (since 2002).
- Duke's two goals allowed leads the ACC with the next closest being Florida State (3).
- The Blue Devils rank tied for first nationally with two goals allowed on the year along with Mississippi State.
- The two goals allowed over the first eight games to open a season is the fewest in program history -- 2 (2024), 3 (1988, 2005), 4 (1994, 2007, 2010, 2021, 2018).
- Duke's defense has allowed only nine corner kicks in the last eight matches as well.
