The Blue Devils had 17 student-athletes receive the honor for the first time in their careers. Duke's first-time picks were Cameron Bergeron, Al Blades Jr., Curtis Cooper, Matt Craycraft, Scott Elliott, Jeremiah Hasley, James Hopson II, Jake Hornibrook, Sean Kelly, Jeremiah Lewis, Jake Long, Dorian Mausi, Maurice McIntyre, Nick Morris Jr., Brian Parker II, Todd Pelino, and Jordan Waters.

Duke and Wake Forest led all schools with 29 selections, followed by Clemson (27) and Virginia (27). Over the last 12 seasons (2012-23), Duke has produced a conference-best 192 All-ACC Academic selections ahead of Clemson (120), Wake Forest (109), Virginia (103), Pittsburgh (93), Virginia Tech (81), N.C. State (70), Boston College (67), Louisville (67), Syracuse (66), Miami (61), Florida State (54), Georgia Tech (51), and North Carolina (50). Of note, Pittsburgh's sum is only since 2013, while Syracuse and Louisville's mark is only since 2014.
Florida State earned 26 selections, followed by Louisville (23), Virginia Tech (19), Boston College (16), North Carolina (16), Pittsburgh (16), Syracuse (16), Miami (13), Georgia Tech (9) and NC State (9).

Duke redshirt senior defensive tackle DeWayne Carter was named the recipient of the 2023 Jim Tatum Award in November. The award is given annually in memory of the late Jim Tatum to the top senior student-athlete among the league's football players.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests during the season. The league has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.
