DURHAM – Two Duke baseball players were named to
D1Baseball's 2024 MLB Draft Top-100 College Prospects. Junior left-handed pitcher
Jonathan Santucci was tabbed as the 36th best prospect, while fellow right-handed pitcher
Fran Oschell III was marked as the 66th best player.
Santucci and Oschell III are two of 24 ACC prospects on the top-100 list, the second most of any conference on the list.
Santucci, a 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher, started seven games for the Blue Devils before having his season cut short due to injury. The 2022 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Camp Invitee posted a 2-2 record on the mound with a 4.30 ERA. He punched out a career-high 11 batters against Wake Forest (3/10) and allowed a season low two hits against North Carolina (3/24). In his first four starts of the year, Santucci tallied 38 strikeouts to just four walks. The two-way player hit his first career home run against Princeton (3/4).
Oschell III, a 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher, was a member of the 2023 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and was named an All-American by
Perfect Game (2nd team),
Baseball America (3rd team) and
D1Baseball(3rd team). The Phoenixville, Pa., native posted a perfect 6-0 record out of the bullpen for the Blue Devils in his 22 appearances. He finished the year with a 0.69 ERA, allowing just three earned runs to score. Oschell III concluded the 2023 campaign with 66 strikeouts and held opponents to a .133 average at the plate.
