DURHAM – The Voice of the Blue Devils, David Shumate, sat down with senior safety Jaylen Stinsonfor a brief question and answer session.
DS: Can you take me through what you remember about the final play at Northwestern last season, where you forced a fumble to solidify the victory in Evanston? JS: They were running tempo and it was coming down to the last 30 seconds of the game. They hit us with a draw play up the middle and I was thinking I am the last line of defense so I threw my body across the line and was just trying to make a play.
DS: The way you went into the tackle made it look like you were trying to force it out, was that the case or were you just trying to get him on the ground? JS: Yeah, I was just trying to blow the play up. I was doing whatever I could to make a play.
DS: How nice is it to begin this season at home with three-straight games in Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium in front of the home fans? JS: It is actually pretty nice. I love playing at home. It is a great feeling to be able to be at home and play in front of the crowd.
DS: Do you have a favorite helmet decal or helmet that you wear for games? JS: Honestly, I don't. I don't pay that much attention to it, and I like pretty much all of our helmets.
DS: What about a uniform combination? JS: Definitely the all-white uniform.
DS: What do you credit the success of the secondary so far this season too? JS: Most definitely, I think that the work we put out in practice and in the film room has helped. Our whole team works hard, but we try to pride ourselves on being the hardest working group in the country. It really showed up in our opener against Clemson.
DS: What have you liked about working with Tyler Santucciso far since his arrival? JS: Just the energy that he brings to the table. He lights us up sometimes and really gets us going.
