DURHAM – The fourth-ranked Duke women's soccer team travels to Columbia, S.C., this week to close exhibition action against the 12th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. The match will be contested Thursday, Aug. 10 at 5 p.m., inside Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.
Admission will be free for all fans and no video feed will be provided.
Duke and South Carolina are coming off meeting a pair of times last season with the Blue Devils coming out on top in both contests, which were played in Durham. In an exhibition match in August, Duke registered a 2-1 victory with
Katie Groff and
Julia Hannon collecting second half goals.
Both teams met again in November as part of the NCAA Tournament round of 16 with the Blue Devils receiving a couple of goals from
Michelle Cooper to win 2-1.
For the second straight exhibition contest, a member of Duke's squad will face her sister as senior
Nicky Chico will go up against her sister, Emily, who is a sophomore defender for the Gamecocks. In Monday's match versus Wake Forest, freshman
Phoebe Goldthwaite went up against her sister, Baylor.
Next up for the Blue Devils will be West Virginia in the season opener at Koskinen Stadium in Durham on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
