Summer Notebook: Riley Wins on APGA Tour; Kim Rises in Rankings

DURHAM – With the fall season on the horizon for Duke men's golf, current and former players have continued their success in amateur and professional events across the country throughout the summer.
Riley Claims First Team Competition Title in APGA Tour History
Former Blue Devil Quinn Riley ('21), who was ranked the No. 1 player in the 2022 Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Collegiate Rankings, combined with teammate Christian Heavens to secure a team competition title in AGPA play. The duo roared back from a seven-shot deficit with a 6-under, 66, in the second round, which was played in an alt-shot format. Riley and Heavens poured in six birdies and added an eagle during the round and took home the $10,000 first-place prize. The win marks Riley's first victory on the APGA Tour.
Riley entered the APGA Two Man Classic coming off a third-place finish in the previous week's APGA event, which was held at Valhalla Golf Club. The former Duke standout finished in a tie for third place, after a 36-hole score of 4-under, 138.
Kim Rises in Amateur Rankings
Following his victory at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, incoming freshman Bryan Kim has jumped up the amateur rankings. In the American Junior Golf Association listing, Kim jumped nine spots and is now No. 2, while in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, the Brookeville, Md., native saw a 191-spot rise and is now 252nd. He also appears near the top of other junior rankings, slotting in at No. 3 in Golfweek's list and No. 5 on Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Love Finishes Fourth at Georgia Amateur
Rising sophomore William Love fell just shy of defending his Georgia Amateur title, finishing in a tie for fourth place at the 102nd annual event. The Atlanta, Ga., native carded three under-par rounds en route to a 2-under, 282, over the course of four days. Coming off one of the best freshman seasons in Duke men's golf history, Love has now logged three top-25 finishes through his first five amateur events this summer, including two appearances in the top-10.
Siebers, Peters Secure Top-20 Finishes
Rising senior Ian Siebers and rising junior John Peters both found themselves inside the top-25 at the end of their most recent amateur events. Siebers staked claim to a tie for 20th place at the Pacific Coast Amateur with a 4-under, 276, and finished under-par in three of his four rounds – including a closing 67 in his fourth and final round.
Peters ended in a tie for 14th at the Pennsylvania Amateur after his 1-under, 212. The Carlisle, Pa., native has finished 14th or better at the event two years in a row, after claiming a fourth-place finish at the 2022 iteration of the event. He now turns his attention to the 107th Pennsylvania Open Championship, which is set to be held Aug. 14-16.
PGA TOUR Concludes Regular Season
With the PGA TOUR playing its final event before the start of the FedExCup Playoffs, the Wyndham Championship is once again shaping up to be a dramatic precursor to the postseason. With the entry point to the FedExCup Playoffs moved up significantly this year, only the top 70 players in the FedExCup Standings advance to next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Three former Blue Devils' find themselves in the hunt for the FedExCup Playoffs. Alex Smalley, Kevin Streelman and Adam Long are currently 47th, 84th and 138th in the standings, respectively. Fans can follow live scoring all weekend on the PGA TOUR's website and can tune in for weekend coverage on Golf Channel from 1-3 p.m., and on CBS from 3-6 p.m.
