- Friday's game starts at 7 p.m., at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Admission is free and parking is available at 705 Broad Street. The game will be streamed on ACCNX.

2023 Promotions Schedule
The Opening Hit
- Duke opens the 2023 season with a Friday matchup with Big Ten foe Indiana. It is the first meeting between the Blue Devils and Hoosiers since 2014.
- The Blue Devils return an experienced core of players who have played a combined 690 collegiate field hockey contests and started 414 of those.
- Indiana finished last season with a 9-10 overall record and 1-7 mark in league action. Like Duke, the Hoosiers return the majority of their scoring from last season, including all four who had double-digit points. Goaltender Arabella Loveridge is also back after playing all but 29 minutes last season.
- The Blue Devils welcome back 89 percent of their points and 93 percent of their goals from the 2022 season. Duke brought in four rookies and a graduate student transfer from Lehigh in Sarah Bonthuis.

Preseason All-ACC
- Duke's Hannah Miller was voted to the Preseason All-ACC team by the league's seven coaches. Miller was a first-team choice in 2022 and returns for her final season as a Blue Devil after leading Duke with 25 points last season. Her 11 assists in 2022 tied for 18th in Duke single-season history as she became just the 20th Blue Devil to record at least 11 helpers in a season.

Preseason Top 20
- Duke enters the 2023 season ranked 20th in the NFHCA preseason poll. The Blue Devils started last year ranked 18th and climbed as high as 16th. Duke has 13 contests this season against top-20 opponents. All seven ACC programs are in the preseason rankings.

Duke in Season Openers
- The Blue Devils are entering their 53rd season as a field hockey program. Duke is 36-14-2 all-time in season-opening contests and 9-3 under head coach Pam Bustin in the first game of the year. The Blue Devils are starting the 2023 season at home for just the sixth time since 2011.

- Duke and Indiana meet for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2014. The Blue Devils are 1-2 versus the Hoosiers with the win coming at home in 2013. The most recent contest in 2014 was a 3-2 setback in Bloomington. Head coach Pam Bustin is 7-6 against Indiana in her coaching career.

Scouting Indiana
- Indiana enters the 2023 season after a 9-10 record in 2022, including a 1-7 mark in Big Ten action. The Hoosiers return a wealth of experience, which includes the top five scorers. Like Duke, Indiana welcomes back 93 percent of its points and 94 percent of its goals from a season ago.
- Arabella Loveridge is back to anchor the backline in goal. Loveridge played all but 29 minutes last season, finishing with a 2.86 goals against average and a .702 save percentage. Redshirt senior Sydney Keld made a nation's-best 12 defensive saves a year ago, while also registering six goals and three assists.

An Experienced Squad Returns
- The Blue Devils return a wealth of game experience in 2023. Duke has 690 games played across the 21 players with collegiate field hockey experience, including Hannah Miller with 72, Mary Harkins at 68, Charlie van Oirschot with 57 and Piper Hampsch at 50. Of those 690 games, 414 were starting assignments.
- In addition to having played games, Duke returns the bulk of its scoring from last season with 93 percent of the goal scoring and 89 percent of the overall points back for another year.

Miller Moving On Up   Â
- Hannah Miller aims to continue climbing the Duke career scoring chart. The veteran forward ranks tied for 21st with 69 career points. Her 25 career goals are 24th in Duke history.
- Miller, playing back in the midfield in 2022, dished a career-best 11 assists. Her 11 overall assists and 0.61 per game average ranked second in the ACC and 17th nationally. A starter in every game of her career as a Blue Devil, Miller has registered at least 20 points in two of her four seasons.

The Veens - A Field Hockey Family         Â
- Veen hails from a field hockey family. Her mother and father both played for Netherlands in the Olympics in Sydney (2000), Atlanta (1996) and Barcelona (1992). Her father, Stephan won two Olympic Gold medals, while her mother, Suzan, took home two bronze medals. Her brother, Lucas, is a member of the Dutch U21 National Team.Â

Next Game
- Duke hits the road for the ACC/Big Ten Cup at Maryland. The Blue Devils take on host Maryland in the first game Sept. 1 and Northwestern Sept. 3 before returning to Durham for a four-game homestand.
