DURHAM – Duke football welcomed local media members to Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday for media day.
Â
Duke head coach Mike Elko, offensive coordinator Kevin Johns, defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci, as well as redshirt senior defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, junior quarterback Riley Leonard, junior nickel Brandon Johnson and graduate offensive lineman Jacob Monk all spoke to members of the media during the event.
Â
"The kids have done a really good job of pushing through to this point," Elko said about being halfway through fall camp. "I told them recently this is where seasons get made. That stretch in the middle, far removed from the beginning, far removed from the end, where you don't really have a lot and you've got to find what you have inside yourself and that's what our team is going through right now. I think they are starting to form those bonds that will build what the 2023 Duke football team becomes. I'm happy with where we are and happy with the progress we're making, obviously we've still got a lot of work to do to get where we want to go to start the season but excited with where we are."
Â
Duke's 2023 season opener is Monday, Sept. 4 against Clemson. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN.
