DURHAM – Duke men's soccer senior
Nick Pariano has been named to the 2023 Preseason All-ACC team, following a vote by the ACC men's soccer coaches.
Pariano, a midfielder from Philadelphia, Pa., has been a steady presence for the Blue Devils and is a team captain for the second consecutive year after being an All-ACC Second Team selection in 2022 – a season in which he started all 19 games for the Blue Devils. He scored one goal and led the team with seven assists for a total of nine points and matched his career-high for assists in a season.
Pariano had a multi-assist game in Duke's win at Louisville and he set up the game-winning goal at Virginia Tech in the regular season finale to help Duke finish undefeated for the first time since 1999. Following the conclusion of the college season, Pariano was one of two collegiate players to be selected to the United States U20 training camp in mid-January of this year.
The conference also announced the preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday, with Duke picked to finish second in the Coastal Division. The Blue Devils, who garnered 51 total votes, three first-place votes and one overall champion vote, have finished atop the Coastal Division in each of the last two seasons. Pittsburgh led the Coastal with 56 total votes and five first-place votes, while Clemson was named as the projected ACC winner, with six overall champion votes. Â
Duke continues preseason play on Wednesday evening, hosting UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium. Admission to the friendly is free for fans. The Blue Devils wrap up exhibition action on Friday, Aug. 18, when they travel to take on No. 17 Georgetown at 4 p.m. The regular season opener is at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 25 against Jacksonville at Koskinen Stadium.
