DURHAM – Eight Duke Blue Devils appeared across the country in summer ball leagues this season, following a record-setting year on the diamond in Durham.
Fran Oschell III – Team USA Collegiate National Team
Oschell III became the fifth Duke player overall to make the 26-man roster for the Collegiate National Team in late June, joining
Todd Lamb (1981),
Marcus Stroman (2011),
Bailey Clark (2015) and
Graeme Stinson (2018). The Phoenxville, Pa., native worked 7.1 innings for the Red, White and Blue, allowing just two hits and punching out 14 batters. Oschell III has not allowed a run since April 28, including holding Chinese Taipei and Japan scoreless during his outings.
Devin Obee – Harwich Mariners – CCBL
Obee finished the 2023 summer ball season with the Harwich Mariners out of the Cape Cod League. The Nashville, Tenn., native was named the Mariners Team MVP, after playing in 38 games this summer. Obee posted a .233 average in his 129 at bats, including a third of his hits going for extra bases. He tallied 23 RBI and drew 19 walks this summer.
Andrew Yu – Harwich Mariners – CCBL
Yu appeared in 16 games for the Harwich Mariners this summer, collecting 11 hits and driving in three runs. He walked seven times and tallied one extra base hit. In back-to-back games, Yu tallied multi-hit contests against Cotuit and Bourne.
Roman DiGiacomo – Danbury Westerners – NECBL
DiGiacomo appeared in 20 games this summer for the Danbury Westerners, tallying 11 hits and three for extra bases. The Fairfield, Conn., native drove in eight RBI and walked once. On July 15, DiGiacomo had a breakout game against the Valley Blue Sox, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI.
Jimmy Romano – Martha's Vineyard Sharks – NECBL
Romano appeared in six games for Marthas Vineyard Sharks, collecting four hits and scoring four runs. The Roseland, N.J., native tallied one home run in his brief stint with the Sharks, while walking four times.
Sam Yelton – Forest City Owls – CPL
Yelton finished the 2023 summer ball season with the Forest City Owls, producing a .276 average at the plate. The Harrisburg, N.C., native logged 21 hits, seven for extra bases, and drove in 15 RBI. He scored 13 runs for the Owls, while drawing 22 walks on the year.
David Boisvert – Burlington Sock Puppets – Appy League
Boisvert had an abbreviated summer, appearing in just two games for the Burlington Sock Puppets. In his two appearances, Boisvert worked 1.2 innings, striking out two batters and holding opponents to a .167 batting average against.
Edward Hart – Vermont Lake Monsters – FCBL
Hart appeared in 12 games this summer for the Vermont Lake Monsters, posting a 2.73 ERA in his 23 innings of work. He accumulated a 2-1 record on the mound, punching out 29 batters and walking just eight. On two separate occasions this summer, Hart tallied outings of 4-plus innings, including striking out nine batters on July 23.
Tyler Albright – Kalamazoo Growlers – NWL
Albright appeared in nine games for the Growlers this summer, posting a .286 average at the plate in his 28 at bats. The Greensboro, N.C., native scored six runs and drove in two RBI. He added seven walks and four hit by pitches, while collecting a .487 on base percentage.
