DURHAM –Duke softball advanced to the NCAA Super Regional for the second consecutive year and earned hosting duties for the first time in program history after defeating Charlotte, 4-2, in the championship game of the Durham Regional on Sunday.
The eighth-seeded Blue Devils now welcome ninth-seeded Stanford to Duke Softball Stadium for a best-of-three series beginning Friday. The teams have only met once prior to this weekend, with Duke claiming the 4-2 victory during the Mark Campbell Invitational in Irvine, Calif., earlier this season.
The series is set to begin on Friday at 12 p.m., live on ESPN2, with game two slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday. The teams will play a tiebreaker on Sunday, if necessary, with the winner advancing to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 1-9.
Overall, Duke is now 8-5 in the NCAA Championship and have outscored opponents at the event 55-35, including their first NCAA run-rule win over No. 19 Georgia in 2022 en route to reaching the program's first NCAA Super Regional last season.
