DURHAM – Three Blue Devils earned all-conference recognition as the ACC announced the 2023 All-ACC Women's Lacrosse teams Tuesday.
Graduate student
Maddie Jenner was selected to the first team while senior
Cubby Biscardi and junior
Katie DeSimone earned a spot on the second team.
This is Jenner's third first team All-ACC nod of her career while Biscardi and DeSimone landed on the second team for consecutive seasons.
Jenner returned to the circle in 2023 for her final year of eligibility as arguably the best in the sport at the draw. Jenner was spectacular last spring and has carried that momentum into her final season in Durham. Through 17 games, Jenner has grabbed 180 draws, 27 goals and eight assists for 35 points to rank third on the team. She also owns nine ground balls and six caused turnovers, proving she's more than just a draw control specialist. Over the course of her career, she has amassed 784 total draws and is the nation's NCAA active career leader in draw controls per game (9.56) and total draw controls (784). She broke the NCAA Division I all-time draw control record in Duke's win over Gardner-Webb (2/19) in addition to the NCAA single-season draw control record last spring (233). She reached the 100 point and 100-goal milestones this season, adding to her impressive resume. Over the last two games, Jenner has tallied eight points, including a career-high five in the setback to North Carolina (4/20).
Duke's defensive unit has been solid despite some of the outcomes. Spearheaded by veteran Biscardi, she has been the steady presence needed by the unit -- she makes a lot happen on the defensive end and is hugely important on the draw circle. This spring, she owns 36 caused turnovers, 33 draw controls and 16 ground balls. She currently ranks 21st nationally with 1.94 caused turnovers per contest and leads the ACC. Over her career, she has amassed 108 caused turnovers to rank fifth in program lore. She reached 100 for her career in Duke's setback at Louisville (4/15). Biscardi tallied at least one caused turnover in 14 of Duke's 17 games this spring, including a career-high six in Duke's first round victory over Louisville.
DeSimone has been Duke's engine on the offensive side of the ball this spring with 63 points by way of 47 goals and 16 assists. Her total points are currently tied for 43rd nationally, while her 3.71 points per game are 78th. DeSimone was held without a goal against North Carolina for only the second time this season and for just the ninth time in her career. She connected on a player-up opportunity against Louisville at 6:55 in the second quarter -- her first goal since 8:07 in the first against Louisville eight days prior. She has tallied nine hat tricks, including two sock tricks, this spring.
Ninth-seeded Duke will take on top-seeded Boston College Wednesday in the ACC Quarterfinals. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m., on ACC Network.
