DURHAM - Duke travels to Louisville for the second time in eight days to open the 2023 ACC Tournament. Opening draw for the first round game is set for 2 p.m., on ACC Network with Dana Boyle and Leah Secondo on the call.
OPENING DRAW
- Duke and Louisville meet for the 11th time in program history and the second time in eight days.
- The two last met April 15 in Louisville as the Cardinals secured a 14-13 win. The all-time series is 8-2 in favor of the Blue Devils and 3-2 in Louisville.
LAST TIME OUT
- Duke women's lacrosse dropped a hard-fought 13-12 decision to sixth-ranked North Carolina Thursday evening at Koskinen Stadium.
- Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by graduate student Maddie Jenner with a career-high five points by way of three goals and two assists. Senior Caroline DeBellis also added three points from two goals and a dime on her senior night.
- Defensively, the Blue Devils locked down on defense, particularly on North Carolina's leading scorer Caitlyn Wurzburger. She finished the game with one goal on just three shots.
- Perhaps one of the bigger storylines of the game was freshman goalie Madison Drebing. Making her first start since March 14 against Yale and just the second of her career, Drebing made five saves in the absence of Sophia LeRose through 53 minutes. Prior to tonight she had seen action in just 34 minutes since April 1.
- Duke has gone 4-9 since starting the season 3-0.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- Louisville comes into Sunday's contest 5-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play. It most recently dropped a 15-9 decision at No. 7 Notre Dame Thursday.
- Offensively, the Cardinals are led by Nicole Perroni with 44 points from 36 goals and eight assists, followed by Kokoro Nakazawa with 31 (21G, 10A). Perroni also has 46 draw controls, 27 caused turnovers and 30 ground balls to her name. Negai Nakazawa owns 13 goals and five assists to go along with 24 ground balls, 20 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.
- Goalie Sara Addeche has played nearly 800 minutes in the cage this season and sports a 13.47 GAA and a .432 save percentage between the pipes.
DUKE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
- Under the direction of head coach Kerstin Kimel, the Blue Devils are 12-24 all-time in the ACC Championship and 6-5 in first round games. 2023 marks the first time Duke has received the No. 9 seed as the conference expanded and again this spring to 10 teams.
- Duke will face Louisville in conference tournament action for just the second time. Duke won the previous matchup in 2015 in Charlottesville, Va. (14-7).
- The Blue Devils own one ACC title, which came in 2005.
