DURHAM – Duke women's basketball pushed its 2023 class to four members as head coach
Kara Lawson announced the signing of
Jordan Wood to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm excited and blessed to be a Blue Devil," said Wood. "Duke provides incredible opportunities for both students and athletes to thrive. Coach Lawson has a strong determination to help her players succeed at the highest level and I wouldn't want to be a part of anything else!"
With her name on the dotted line, Wood joins fellow incoming freshman
Jadyn Donovan,
Oluchi Okananwa and
Delaney Thomas – all of whom were
previously announced during the early signing period back in November.
The 2023 class marks Duke's first recruiting haul since the 2015 class with a player ranked in the top-five nationally by ESPN, as well as the first group since the 2014 class with at least three prospects ranked in the ESPN top 30.
Jordan Wood | 6-4 | Forward | Chicago, Ill. | Carmel Catholic HS
Wood, ranked No. 62 in the ESPN 2023 Class Rankings, is a four-time All-East Suburban Catholic Conference Selection and four-star forward who brings great size, versatility and length to both sides of the ball. She brings face-up scoring, a lethal midrange game and a strong passing skillset to the front court. Additionally, Wood has great defensive mobility and is a strong rim runner in transition.

Lawson on Jordan Wood:
"I'm excited to add Jordan to our already decorated 2023 class. She brings a lot to The Sisterhood. She's a versatile player on both ends of the floor. We really value versatility. Her length, in particular defensively, should be an asset to how we want to play, like our style of play defensively. We want to cause disruption in the full court and in the half court and her length and athleticism, I think as she grows through the course of her career, can really be a positive for us on the offensive end. She brings versatility [there] as well. The size and the length, the ability to knock down the three-point shot. She's somebody that just fit us culture wise immediately. When we talked, and when she was around our team, she's going to be somebody that I think is going to grow a lot each year and somebody that will impact our team throughout her entire career."
