DURHAM- Sophomore
Ana Gold has been named ACC Player of the Week following her explosive performances in Wednesday's doubleheader against North Carolina Central and the conference-opening weekend against Notre Dame.
The Ballston Spa, N.Y., native blasted a three-run walk-off home run to push the No. 12 Blue Devils past the Fighting Irish on Sunday afternoon, 4-3. The rubber match win helped Duke (17-4, 2-1 ACC) secure the series against Notre Dame (11-6, 1-2 ACC) in the teams' ACC-opening weekend. Gold finished the three games going 3-for-8 with seven RBI, six runs, two walks and three home runs.
Gold also led the offense in the doubleheader against the Eagles (1-16) batting 5-for-7 with four runs and six RBI, including the game-ending RBI-single in the nightcap to shutout North Carolina Central, 12-0 and 8-0, respectively.
The honor is the sophomore's first ACC Player of the Week award in her career. Gold is the sixth Blue Devil to earn the recognition in program history, joining junior
Claire Davidson (Feb. 21),
Jameson Kavel (March 8, 2022),
Rachel Crabtree (March 1, 2022),
Caroline Jacobsen (Feb. 15, 2022) and
