DURHAM — Duke women's soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2023 as head coach
Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 6 overall class. During the spring, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the seven newcomers.
The second incoming freshman that will be spotlighted is Cameron Roller, who is a 5-11 defender from Sherman, Texas. She attends Gunter H.S., and plays for the Solar Soccer Club.
Roller is ranked No. 13 overall in the class of 2023 by TopDrawerSoccer. She was a member and captain of the U.S. 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup squad and helped lead the U.S. U-17 Women's Youth National Team to its fifth Concacaf U-17 Women's Championship in 2022 in Dominican Republic.
GoDuke.com: What made you choose Duke?
Cameron Roller: The coaches, the team comradery, and the comforting environment on and of the field.
GD: Tell us about your soccer game and what you hope to bring to Duke?
CR: I hope to bring high energy and 100% every day into training. I am so excited to learn from the best and hopefully get the opportunities to apply what I learn into the game.
GD: Favorite NWSL Player?
CR: Naomi Girma
GD: Most excited for Duke (soccer and not soccer)?
CR: Soccer - Getting to know the team and pushing myself out of my comfort zone; Not soccer - Meeting new people and growing a healthy lifestyle each day to be successful in the classroom.
GD: What is a fun fact/skill/talent people may not know about you?
CR: My fun fact is that my birthday is the first day of the summer season!!!
GD: Who are your biggest inspirations on and off the pitch?
CR: My biggest inspiration is my mom on and off the field. She is such a hard worker and supports the ones around her the most. She is selfless and shows so much love to others,
GD: What is your proudest moment on the soccer field so far?
CR: Getting to represent the United States at the Women's U-17 World Cup!
GD: At what age did you start playing soccer?
CR: Three
GD: Did you play other sports growing up?
CR: Basketball and track
GD: I know it is early, but do you have any idea yet what you think you might want to major in?
CR: Psychology!!!
