- Duke tips off its 47th season of Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play Thursday night when the Blue Devils travel to Clemson, S.C., for a matchup with the Tigers.
- The game is slated for a 7 p.m., start live on ACC Network, with Jason Ross and Jasmine Thomas calling the action.
- The Blue Devils are 31-15 all-time in conference openers and have gone 8-11 on the road.
- Duke owns an 11-game edge in the all-time series against Clemson, 44-33. The Blue Devils have won 25 of their last 26 games against the Tigers.
- As a team, Duke currently ranks No. 2 nationally in blocks per game with an average of 7.6 rejections. Individually, graduate student Camilla Emsbo checks in at No. 35 and No. 36 in the nation, respectively in total blocks (15) and blocks per game (1.9).
- In the first 2023-24 NET ranking of the season released on Monday, Duke checked in at No. 24
- The Blue Devils have seen a balanced attack on the offensive end thus far as the team features three players averaging double figures.
- Junior Reigan Richardson paces the Blue Devils with 13.4 points per game followed by sophomore Ashlon Jackson (12.4) and freshman Oluchi Okananwa (10.3). Sophomore Taina Mair sits just below double figures with an average of 9.9.
- The Blue Devils have provided assists on more than 50 percent of their field goals (.535) with 123 dimes on 230 made buckets.
RANKINGS ROUNDUP
- The first NET ranking of the 2023-24 campaign was released on Monday with Duke checking in at No. 24. The Blue Devils are one of four ACC teams rated in the top 25 of the NET. The other three are No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 9 NC State and No. 18 Louisville.
- As a team, Duke currently ranks among the top-five nationally in blocks with the Blue Devils checking in at No. 2 in the NCAA with 7.6 rejections per game -- No. 1 in the ACC.
- Individually, graduate student Camilla Emsbo is slotted 35th and 36th in the nation, respectively in total blocks (15) and blocks per game (1.9).
- The Blue Devils are also ranked among the top 50 in the NCAA in three-point percentage (37.5 -- 28th), steals per game (11.1 -- 37th) and turnovers forced (20.5 -- 46th).
SUPERLATIVE SPOTLIGHT
- Duke's reserves are providing a spark for the Blue Devils, boasting an average of 24.8 points per game. The Blue Devils have scored more bench points than their foes in all seven games, totaling 198 points while opponents have put up just 93.
- In four of the games, the Blue Devils have finished with a substantial margin in bench production -- 34-15 (Richmond), 24-6 (Coastal Carolina), 28-5 (at Stanford), 33-11 (NC Central) and South Carolina (22-12).
- Duke has received strong production on the offensive glass this season producing 14.4 offensive rebounds per game.
- The Blue Devils have parlayed those extra possessions into 103 second-chance points, more than 20 points better than their opponents (82). Duke has held the advantage in five games, including sizeable margins against Richmond (18-5) and Coastal Carolina (20-2).
- On the fastbreak, the Blue Devils hold a 105-43 edge and limited seven opponents to fewer than eight points in transition.
- Duke has also commanded the inside early in the season, outscoring its foes 272-208.
- The Blue Devils plus eight in points in the paint compared to their opponents, 34.0 to 26.0, and have finished with double-digit margins in five contests.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday's game will mark the 78th all-time meeting between Duke and Clemson on the hardwood. The Blue Devils hold an 11-game edge, 44-33.
- Duke has won two straight and 25 of the last 26 matchups against the Tigers.
- In the most recent matchup -- Jan. 12, 2013 -- the 16th-ranked Blue Devils posted a 66-56 victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- Clemson has hosted the Blue Devils five times previously in ACC openers with wins in three of those contests.
