Wilson Named Ray Guy Punter of the Week

DURHAM – Graduate student punter Porter Wilson was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for Week 10, the organization announced.
Wilson, a native of Akron, Ohio, booted seven punts for a total of 318 yards, an average of 45.43 yards per punt, in Duke's 24-21 victory over Wake Forest. Three of his punts ended up inside Wake Forest's 20-yard line and he had a long punt of 53 yards.
Wilson was tabbed to the award's preseason watch list heading into the 2023 season and was named to the award's Ray's 8 list for week eight and nine.
About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia, native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
