DURHAM – Senior defensive end Ryan Smithearned ACC Player of the Week honors following Duke's 24-21 victory over Wake Forest last Thursday night.
Smith, an Acworth, Ga., native tallied two tackles and collected his first career interception to set up the Blue Devils' game-winning 26-yard field goal as time expired. Smith helped the Duke defense hold Wake Forest's slow mesh run game to an average of 3.4 yards per attempt and shut out the Demon Deacons in the fourth quarter.
The ACC's other weekly honors included Florida State's Jordan Travis (quarterback) and Ja'Khi Douglas (wide receiver), Clemson's Phil Mahfah (running back), Will Putnam (offensive lineman), Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (linebacker) and Aidan Swanson (special teams), Boston College's Elijah Jones (defensive back) and Miami's Mark Fletcher Jr. (rookie).
