A SURREAL MOMENT: BLUE DEVILS HOST USA BASKETBALL IN EXHIBITION
- It was a surreal moment for the Duke women's basketball team on Sunday as the Blue Devils hosted the USA Basketball Senior Women's National Team -- many of whom the current Blue Devils grew up watching play -- in an exhibition contest as part of Team USA's preparation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
- Three members of the current Duke women's basketball team share strong ties with USA Basketball -- head coach Kara Lawson and freshmen Jadyn Donovan and Delaney Thomas. The trio has combined for 15 gold medals -- Lawson (11 - player and coach), Donovan (3), Thomas (1).
- For Lawson, it was a full circle moment -- she began her USA Basketball career back in 2001 at the World University games before capping her playing career with Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she set the career record for highest three-point field goal percentage (8-14, .571) -- a mark that still stands -- en route to helping lead Team USA to the gold medal. Sunday marked the first time that Lawson went up against USA Basketball as a head coach.
- Sophomore Taina Mair dropped a team-high 16 points and the Duke women's basketball team put forth a valiant effort, battling relentlessly for 40 minutes, ultimately falling to the USA Basketball Women's National Team, 87-58, Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- In addition to Mair, the Blue Devils also received solid contributions from senior Kennedy Brown and freshman Oluchi Okananwa. Okananwa tallied nine points and seven rebounds while Brown chipped in eight points and seven boards of her own.

- Battiston will enroll at Duke early and join the Blue Devils in January of 2024 to be on campus with the team. The trio of Cotton, Fournier and Roberson are slated to step foot in Durham later in 2024.

- According to the espnW recruiting rankings, as of Nov. 11, no team in women's college basketball has signed more players ranked in the top 30 over the last three seasons than Duke. The Blue Devils share the top spot with South Carolina having signed seven top-30 prospects each during this stretch, with UConn and UCLA right behind with six apiece.
